Ideal for wearing over whatever if you wish to be seen. Feel free to pop this on over what you're wearing for biking and feel comforted that you will be seen in the dark from a distance.

Comments about Nashbar High-Visibility Safety Vest:

Received as a gift. I would not recommend to a friend because of the velcro closure tabs loosen in the wind even when pressed tightly together and properly fitted. After a few years the upper back high visibility colours begin to fade from sun exposure. Best use for night riding.

Comments about Nashbar High-Visibility Safety Vest:

I ride with this mostly on casual cruises with my kid on the bike, and also for commuting along a busy road with stretches of high speed cars and busy intersections. It's not for the hottest of days, but it's great to put over regular clothes. Doesn't flap around, I've worn it on motorbikes to. Can't be missed wearing it, and in my experience people pass wider when I'm wearing it on my bike. I'm 6' tall, 200lbs and a Large fits me perfectly with just enough room to comfortably add a sweatshirt if I want.

          Better for Construction than Cycling!

Comments about Nashbar High-Visibility Safety Vest:

This is not a cycling vest! It is a standard reflective vest for construction workers. Among cyclists, it would only be useful in colder weather, when riding in an upright position, and worn over a coat.

It has very limited size adjustability around the chest and waist - from large to larger. It will flap in the breeze when used over normal cycling clothes (i.e. fitted jerseys and jackets). There is no way to "cinch it" around yourself without creating "flaps" in the front that catch the wind (look at the guy in photo). Very poor design for cycling. Further, it is not a breathable mesh, so it is like adding another layer of warmth. You could never wear this in warm weather. If this were designed for cyclists, the reflective stripes would be lower on the back, so they could be more visible when crouched in the drops.

SUMMARY: This would be useful for winter commuters who ride in an upright position and wear street clothes. They could wear it over a winter jacket. And it would serve as an extra layer of warmth. This is NOT for use with drop-bar bikes and fitted bike clothes. And not for use in warm weather. It's clearly a vest originally designed for construction workers who are standing, rather than crouching over drop handlebars.

NOTE: I am 5' 7" male, 180 lbs, and broad-chested and the size medium would have been large enough to wear over a winter jacket. It could not have been closed tight enough to wear over normal cycling clothes without flapping in the wind. I don't think the size small would have been any better, given the design of the vest. It would work fine for upright commuters in fall/winter street clothes, but it is not good for dropbar cyclists.

It works just fine, but is on the larger side for women. I try to wear it over my backpack while commuting to make it work.

Nice but I had to add new velcro to make it fit tightly to me. Even with a size small (I'm 155 and 6ft) I felt like the thing was made for someone 1.5x my size. With the new velcro it worked well.

The sizes are right for men, but women... Large fit my size 12-14 daughter in hips & bust, too small for me. But the visibility is great. I always appreciate being able to see a bike rider on the road at dusk or dark. Bright for daytime use too. Good inexpensive choice!

Comments about Nashbar High-Visibility Safety Vest:

This works as it should. It is roomy, so it will fit well over a jersey, t-shirt, or even a jacket. Being a reflective vest, it isn't too breathable, which makes it a nice extra layer for wearing in the dark or dawn/dusk times. I haven't worn this during the summer, so can't speak to the extra heat, but I don't plan on using it much during Daylight Savings.
