    Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

It's a KMC chain which is a good chain and a great value. Buy a chain pin tool like the Park and read the instructions. If confused find a friend or LBS for help. Some wish it had more lube or grease from factory. Wrong answer!!! They know what they are doing. Check manufactures web site. Grease attracts dirt, dirt is abrasive, abrasives wear metal, worn metal= expensive parts replacement. Use a light oil and apply to every pin and then use rag to spread evenly and remove excess oil. A light film is desireable. If you like mud wash your bike regularly with low pressure garden hose (never high pressure washes grease out of bearings), dry and reapply light oil. Everyonce in a while clean chain, cog, and rings more thoroughly. Use a brush and non flammable solvent/degreaser and/or remove and use a plastic mayo jar with mineral spirits (low vapors= low flammability) and shake with lid on tight. Gloves and splash proof googles make it a safer job. Remove and dry with rag and apply light oil. Frequency depends on riding style. Do this and you have many miles of reliable performance. If you replace a chain before stretch is bad you save expensive cogs and rings. Bad chains ruin cogs and rings which becomes expensive. If this helped you please check the useful block so others can see it.

      Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

I've used these chains for decades and have rarely been disappointed. I will admit to immense frustration two years ago while pedaling across Texas [detailed in my 4th book, "Dry'd, Fry'd, and Sky'd by Headwinds and Heat: My 1300mile/2100kilometer Trans-Texas Bicycle Odyssey] when this chain kept breaking on me between MarfaTX & AlpineTX, but the problem was my inability to accurately use the chain tool. Once discovering the solution, the quick link, I've never had anymore trouble. The price is extremely low, and a great value. I highly recommend this to anyone serious about bicycling and doing their own repairs, especially while underway!

        Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

I was so disappointed with my Nashbar chains last year, while BikeTouring to Houston that I swore them off--forever! But, when the cost of name-brand chains is horrendously high, as you well know, so I decided to give these massively inexpensive chains another chance, both in my daily rides and finally with a short, fully-loaded (420lbs/191kgs; half the weight is me, the rest belongs to my Doublevision + gear) biketour (my annual Irene's Pedal; this time my route went from El PasoTX-CornudasTX-Sierra BlancaTX-Ft. HancockTX-FabensTX-San ElizarioTX) which included a low mountain pass, long & steep rolling hills, all on road. This time the chains were more than up to the task. In fact, I haven't had to break the chains or anything, and greased them only once, with Purple Extreme. So far, so good, and I'm so grateful. I highly recommend these chains to anybody who just wants to pedal to wherever with little problem!

          Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

I've been pedaling for more than 3 decades, have over 100,000miles/160,000kms on my body and worn out several bicycles. Am currently on a Doublevision tandem recumbent, my first (and last?) recumbent, and doubt I ever willingly go back to an upright. Naturally, the chains are extra long on this machine, so I like to keep the expense down when possible--BikeNashbar is perfect for most components! However, last year I took an extended biketour from El PasoTX to HoustonTX and partway back, encountering numerous mechanical failures. Two in in particular were the Shimano Shadow 9 derailleur and the BikeNashbar chains. Once the derailleur failed, I had to convert the 27-speed into a singled speed, then the chain repeatedly failed. I swore to never use a cheap chain again. However, I later found that my own wrenching abilities were probably lacking enough to accurately break/make the chain--I now use only quick links. So when I saw the exceptionally low price for these chains, I amended my sworn statements. I'd recommend these chains to anybody, provided they pass my extensive use.

If your one of those guys that wash and relube there chain after each ride then by all means spend that extra $40 and buy top shelf, but if your like me and all you do is spray it wipe off excess and go, then your gonna chew up any chain with in 500 miles whether it's the top of the line or not! I'm talking m.b. not road.

            Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

KMC is my first brand after using Shimano (Dura Ace) exclusively. Reason - lower price. Shimano licensed KMC to produce some low end chains and now KMC is making world class chains with new innnovations such as TiN coating. The only complain I have for this chain is it is just plain steel. No plating whatsoever. Not much lube either.

I used this chain on my flatbar roadbike for lots of hill climbing, and cleaned it regularly because the master link made it easy to remove. I got a little more than 3000 miles of use before I replaced it with another.

              Weight - 307

              By C.M.

              Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

Just got the chain and weighed it. Came to 307g which is still sort of light but NOT claimed weight. Since this is a Nashbar product I would expect the weight to be within 1%-2% of claimed weight.

Too bad they have to print untrue specs. Even at 307 it's still a good value.

                Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Chain:

This is the best chain for the price I could find. Any chain is only one good ride in the slop away from replacement, so I picked a chain that is inexpensive, durable, and shifts well. The quick link is an especially good feature that all chains should have.

This is the exact same chain that came stock on my Specialized Allez with 105 components. Never knew it wasn't Shimano until it came time to replace it (2500 miles). For the price it can't be beat.
