    Comments about Nashbar 400mm Seatpost:

6'3" requires an extended length seat post for my bike. I've purchased this post based on price not weight. The last post broke after about 9 months of use. Note - I was not on the trails at the time.

      Comments about Nashbar 400mm Seatpost:

I'm 6'-4" and needed an extended post for my city bike. I also needed a little more knee room, so the 25 degree off-set was a huge help. The post looks great and fits perfect. Because it was 410cm, I am now an inch BELOW the suggested max height out of my down tube.

Lower seat clamp rail stuck on seat post

      Comments about Nashbar 400mm Seatpost:

Bought this seatpost and put it on the bike and it was easy to install so I thought it was OK, nothing fancy but a decent value. That is until I tried to readjust the seat angle after my first ride. The top of the seatpost has teeth on it that engage with teeth on the bottom of the lower seatpost clamp in order to hold the saddle angle. The problem is that the teeth on the post and the teeth on the lower seat clamp engage together so tightly that once you tighten the bolt up that it actually seizes the lower mounting clamp onto the top of the seatpost. I literally couldn't adjust it after the first ride. I had to disassemble it and remove the saddle, the upper clamp, and take the bolt and the nut off of the seatpost. The lower seatclamp was stuck on the top of the post so hard that I couldn't budge it by hand pulling up as hard as I could, and the only way I got the lower clamp off was by hitting it a few times with a hammer. I thought I could solve it by greasing the teeth on the top of the post and on the bottom of the lower seatclamp, but that didn't work. I tried to adjust the seat angle on my 2nd ride and the lower seat clamp was stuck on the post AGAIN. I had to take the saddle off and disassemble the whole works again, and the only way I could get the lower seat clamp off the post was by pulling up on it as hard as I could, then it finally popped off. The problem is the design of the teeth on the lower clamp and top of seatpost, they engage each other too tightly, and with the curved interface between the two it actually locks the parts together when tightened. Greasing the teeth only helped marginally. I've NEVER had this problem with any other seatpost in over 25 years of cycling.

      Re-branded Kalloy SP-342

      Comments about Nashbar 400mm Seatpost:

The post appears to be a Nashbar re-branding of the Kalloy SP-342 post, and this Nashbar post is identical to that model on Kalloy's website. I was impressed by the 260gram weight stated for the seatpost for something that is so inexpensive, especially considering that's lighter than some more expensive seatposts. First thing I did was weigh it, the 27.2/400mm size actually weighs 298grams, that's 38grams more than advertised and more believable given the price. Even if they measured the smaller diameter 26.8 post I have a hard time believing that it'd be 260grams as stated. Other than that it's a simple basic 1-bolt seatpost that works like it's supposed to.

            Comments about Nashbar 400mm Seatpost:

When you shop around you will find that the Nashbar seatpost is as light or lighter than some costing 3X as much, even at 400mm. But it has thicker walls front and back for strength. I prefer the simplicity of the single-bolt clamp design, and while it does not have as fine of a micro-adjustable angle increment like a 2-bolt clamp, the adjustment has always been more than enough for the bikes that I have used them on. Plus, it has never creaked/squeeked. Also, the last time I broke a seat in a crash was on this seat post - I only had to replace the seat.
