Comments about Nashbar Brilliant Headlight:

great second like that is easy to move from bike to bike. that said, it's feels cheap, hard to turn on/off and almost impossible to open even with the instructions. time will tell if it holds up or not.

cheap construction. apparently the only way to turn it off is to take out the batteries, because when this arrived, the switch did not work.

            Comments about Nashbar Brilliant Headlight:

A great deal for the visibility alone!! This little light is inexpensive, an although not robust in constructuion, has more durability than flashing lights costing much more. This light could be a life saver for dawn or disk rides, or coming in and out of shadows. Drivers pulling out on the right side will see this light or they are leagally blind! Runs for weeks on 3 AAA alkaline batteries. I keep it on during the whole ride. Easy to mount on handlebar.

            Comments about Nashbar Brilliant Headlight:

This light is great, except for one fatal flaw: the battery life is pretty terrible. It is no longer brighter than its competitors after about 2 weeks of daily use (only about 20min per day on flash mode), and the batteries need to be replaced after about a single month. Comparable planet bike lights, although they might not be quite as bright, will last for 6 months or so with comparable use, and even the $1 lights I ordered direct from [*] had longer battery life.Other than the battery life, it is nice and small, really bright(not quite enough for trail biking or anything), and the mount seems pretty secure.

            Comments about Nashbar Brilliant Headlight:

I commute by bike in New York City, where pretty much everywhere is well lit all the time, so my bike lights are mostly for lighting myself. In the past, I've used Planet Bike lights - specifically the Blaze Half-Watt LED. I've liked these lights except for one thing - I'm not all that great at not loosing them, and they get pricey at about $30 each, [$] for a set. I probably loose one set a year, so it is easily the most expensive part of maintaining my bike. This light is a fair bit cheaper, and after doing the "shine it against a wall" and "look at the reflection in a window" test, it is brighter than the Planet Bike 1/2 Watt as well. Furthermore, it is small and light.I haven't yet used it for more than a day, but it seems pretty good. My only qualm is that the mounting system seems sort of insecure; you don't need any tools to mount it, which is nice, but it seems like it might be prone to turning down toward the ground as I can twist it by hand. I haven't had quite enough experience with this light to confirm that it has this problem, but I've experienced this with lights before, and it usually just means that you need to adjust the light every now and then, so it's not that bad if it is.

            Not waterproof

            By Dan

            from Seattle, WA

            About Me Avid Cyclist

            Comments about Nashbar Brilliant Headlight:

price is nice. Light isn't uselessly dim. Yet it is not even water _resistant_, let alone waterproof. I live in the Pacific Northwest, in the Puget Sound region. I believe it lasted maybe a month. One day, would simply not turn on. Replaced batteries, still nothing. No crashes in that time, so my only guess would be that it managed to short out. Maybe I'm wrong on the why, _but_, if it's not water, then it's even more prone to breakage for even less explicable reasons. If you'll be riding in a very dry area, maybe this could work for you, but wouldn't recommend risking it otherwise.

REALLY, if you'll be using it regularly, I know it seems exorbitant, but NBR sells some _much_ brighter, _much_ more durable lights. Bite the bullet - you'll thank yourself as soon as you're going downhill @>30mph! At least 300 lumens.
