The Privateer mountain shoes are a serious bang-for-your-buck deal. They fit really well, offer incredible support and durability, and they're made with more affordable materials than the super high-end shoes, so you don't have to shell out a lotta dough to add these to your wardrobe.
Microfiber uppers are super breathable and conform to the shape of your feet for extra comfort
2 straps and ratcheting buckle give you an easy-to-adjust design that fits really well
Molded EVA footbeds support your arches to prevent fatigue
DuPont Zytel nylon soles are stiff, light and offer traction in slippery conditions
I use these on my road bike since I prefer spd pedals. They are by far the best looking and lightest mtb shoes in this price range that I was able to find. I have a high instep and wide foot and usually wear a 10.5 or 11 US shoe size. I got these in size 46 and they fit perfectly. I probably wouldn't wear these in the mud on my mountain bike, but I've used them on paths with both bikes and they are very comfortable. My first ride with them was for over 30 miles with no hot spots or numbing. The only improvement I could suggest would be for rubber instead of plastic treads, but that would probably increase the weight.
