Continental Gator Hardshell Road Tire
First there was GatorSkin, a remarkably durable tire in its own right. Then came Ultra GatorSkin. Now, Continental takes durability beyond the limits with the GatorHardshell Road Tire. Like the Ultra GatorSkin, the Gator HardShell tire balances great ride characteristics with long life--and at an affordable price. The Continental GatorHardshell road tire features the bead-to-bead protection of DuraSkin, PLUS a Hardshell casing and extra-wide PolyX breaker. The result is a super-durable road tire that's about as puncture-resistant as a tire can get.
  • A super long-wearing tire that resists punctures and sidewall cuts
  • Casing reinforced with DuraSkin and Hardshell-anti-cut sidewalls for extra protection
  • Smooth-rolling center tread with shoulders optimized for cornering traction
  • Extra-wide PolyX breaker covers tread from shoulder-to-shoulder, providing enhanced puncture-resistance

Comments about Continental Gator Hardshell Road Tire:

I bought these to replace an original set of tires on my road bike as I was getting flats just about every ride. The monsoons are in full swing here in Arizona have been washing up a lot of debris on the trails. I ride about 30 miles at a time 2 times a week for fun/exercise/training and changing a flat is not what I call fun. I like these tires and like most things now a days they're a little expensive but so far seem worth it.

Great tire. I ride primarily on city and mountain roads. My flats dropped dramatically on these tires. I am a tall rider and they last for about 1000 miles on the back tire and more on the front.

Comments about Continental Gator Hardshell Road Tire:

Albuquerque is very rough on bike tires: lots of goatheads and other thorns, along with human-left debris on streets and paved trails. It's been typical for me to get a flat about every third time I ride across town. So far these tires, along with puncture-resistant tubes, are holding up perfectly.

Comments about Continental Gator Hardshell Road Tire:

I bought these 700x25 Hardshells to replace factory 700x23s that came with my new bike. The slightly fatter tire is a LOT more comfortable IMHO. I have used hardshells for years and they just don't get flats - great tires! However, previous versions had a wire cord, where these came folded in a compact package - so I guess they are no longer using wire. Hopefully, this will not affect their durability.

Comments about Continental Gator Hardshell Road Tire:

Wanted something more supple than Specialized Armadillos (= NEVER flats). Gator Hardshells give the same durability (2500 miles on rear, commuting) with one or two flats over the life of the tire. On my third set now. More expensive than auto tires in terms of $/mile, but much better for controlling the beer gut.

I've picked glass shards deeply embedded into this tire out without any punctures through to the tube. A+ in my book. I'll buy again.

Comments about Continental Gator Hardshell Road Tire:

These were some of the tightest fitting clinchers I have ever seen. You better plan on having plenty of extra tubes to sacrifice to pinch flats. The Germans should be shot for ever engineering anything this incredibly tight....I would have rated these a five if it weren't for this but this is a huge drawback on the road. I think there are better choices out there for less $$$.
