Nashbar Front Touring Panniers
When you start outfitting your bike to carry your stuff for touring, it's important to get the right panniers for the job. The Nahsbar Front Touring Pannier is functional and cool looking. Deceptively small looking, it has great capacity including a 9-liter main compartment and a 1-liter side zip pocket. A drawstring closure on top cinches over your cargo and the large overlapping lid is lined with EDF making it totally waterproof. The entire bag is made with 600 denier nylon, so it's tough, light, and it's also EDF backed so it's highly water resistant (rain or road spray ain't getting in). The front Touring Pannier also features a large side pocket for phone, tools, wallet, etc., and has a tail light hanger on the rear pocket.
  • 600 denier nylon is scuff, tear, rip, and puncture resistant--in a big way
  • EDF backing keeps rain or sweat on the outside
  • EPU Backing on lid will keep out driving rain
  • Easy rack mounting takes about 1 minute
  • Drawstring/clip closure adds security and weatherproofing
  • 10 total liters of storage capacity
  • Reflective Logos for added safety
  • Sold as a pair

Decent panniers, garish Nashbar logo

Comments about Nashbar Front Touring Panniers:

Bought these panniers to experiment with front-loaded light touring. Mounted up nicely on Nashbar's front lowrider rack. Like that they have side and top pockets in addition to main bag. Looped carrier handles get a bit too close to front spokes for comfort, but they can be tucked between bag and rack with little trouble. These seem to have room enough for a week's worth of basic gear, look reasonably well built, and are moderately priced. Water repellent, not water proof, so use dry bags inside if you're out in a downpour. Did i mention the oversized logo? Quite the billboard...Nice that they're reflective, but they really detract from the appearance.

Comments about Nashbar Front Touring Panniers:

The zippered pouch on top is very convenient, the size and shape are good for a front rack. The rack used MUST BE the one from Nashbar (not stated in the description). The hooks are too far apart for other racks. There is no hook or pin to prevent the pannier from jumping up and unhooking from the rack. Only the bungee cord keeps it in place. This will stretch in time and lose it's grip. The cord is not replaceable or adjustable. I sent them back.

Comments about Nashbar Front Touring Panniers:

These are a great set of bags, whether to use alone or with rear panniers. I've taken them on trips and have no complaints, between the rear bags and the front panniers, plenty of room. I have a minimulist attitude toward touring and don't need "the kitchen sink mentality" so they suit my needs fine

Comments about Nashbar Front Touring Panniers:

I don't think that the previous reviewer understood the point of these panniers. Yes, they are small, but that is a feature, not a bug. As a supplement to larger rear panniers as part of a touring set-up, these are sized perfectly. These are definately intended for low-rider racks, and they seem perfectly fine for that usage. If you're looking for panniers that will work as your only panniers, you should probably just get some rear panniers.

So far my one qualm with them is that the separation between the hooks is a bit wide, as many low-rider racks don't have a huge width on the top bar, and the hooks were close to coming off the edge of my racks. I found a nice hack though that solved the problem, but it might not be availible on all rack designs.

I'm going to take them on a 2000 mile trip, and will update my review with comments on the durrability after that.

      Front Touring Pannier

      By REI Randonee Rider

      from Boise, Idaho

      About Me Commuter

Comments about Nashbar Front Touring Panniers:

This pannier is extremely small and the lid/cover is very large. Might work well if pannier is jam packed with gear and you stretch the elastic lid around the top of the bag. Awkward fit and look. Definately keep shopping. The older ATB rear nashbar panniers were very good for front and rear use, but are no longer offered. These are cheap. Would not pay $20. Cost me $7.99 to return. I wish there had been some reviews before I purchased. I like Nashbar but not this product.
