Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers
Showing up at the end of your commute or touring day only to find soggy sandwiches, cellphones, clothes, and shoes is the bummer of all bummers. Avoid this cycling fiasco with Nashbar's Waterproof Rear Panniers. They are made with rugged 400 denier nylon which is scuff, puncture, and tear resistant, and treated with EPU coating on the inside which seals the deal--literally. A roll-top closure makes it impossible for water to work its way in...you pretty much have to throw these panniers in a river to get your stuff wet. With a whopping 31 liters of capacity, you can hit the road for months with these panniers.

For the ultimate all-weather touring capacity, we recommend pairing these with Nashbar's Front Waterproof Panniers which are a smaller version of this item.

  • Durable 400 denier outer material w/EPU coating is ultra tough and totally waterproof
  • Folding "roll-top" closure keeps rain out completely
  • 31 liters of storage each carries quite a load
  • Mounts easily to racks
  • Reflective Logos on side and rear
  • Sold as a pair

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers:

Bought these for commuting and touring with expectations of moving from Washington DC to the Pacific Northwest later this year. Waterproof will be necessary, to say the least.
They are very durable, if not extremely lightweight. Gram counters may want to find a different option. That said, touring and wet commutes could not find a better option. About a week after I bought these, I threw a few items in I wouldn't mind getting wet and left them outside through a 3 hour long downpour to test 'em out. When I went outside to retrieve them, water poured off them when I picked them up. I opened them hesitantly, and found them absolutely BONE DRY inside.
    I couldn't be happier.
The elastic hook that grabs the bottom of your rack is very tight, making them a bit tough to mount on the rack, but that same tension will give you full confidence that they won't budge when you hit a pothole.
Totally worth the price - highest recommendation for touring and wet commuting applications.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers:

My girlfriend and I both bought these panniers, and the matching front bags as well, for a self supported 4100 mile tour from Rochester, NY to Seattle, WA in 2015 and still use them occasionally and but not nearly with so much force today for groceries. So I have to keep this short our I'll run out of characters, so here
    1. Bags are huge, 60+ Liters combined
    2. Actually waterproof
    3. Fit to our racks okay, but compatibility can definitely be better
    4. Brushed up against a concrete pillar and had to sew and used tube patches to patch the hole, worked out
    5. Raccoons chewed a hole through a bag one night, sewed patched again, still waterproof
    6. Old fasteners had to be tightened, then replaced with new after the old became stripped out. I used stainless steel to avoid rusting
    7. Pretty great bags for this price, gotta say
    8. You want to use storage bags with these, anything small will be a pain to remove, you have to pack these bags with a first in, first out approach or you'll be repacking these things all day.
    9. Protective coating over hooks falls off, metal to metal didn't do much damaged

So we will be buying these bags again for sure, whenever the ones we have give out, this time around I would replace all the screws and nuts beforehand at home to avoid doing it while at camp with limited tools

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers:

I purchased this to replace a previous version I've been using for over five years. It's the largest pannier bag I've seen for a great price and fully waterproof too. It's not perfect but is the product you are looking for if you need a super-large pannier. The reflective accents a re a great bonus too. I wouldn't rely on the light clips though as you can't properly aim them hanging on the soft fabric. The clips/elastic band are sturdy although the bag may fall off from a large bounce. They also may not fit every rack. The top has two hooks which rest on the top bar and on there is an elastic band with a single hook to stretch on the bottom. Check if your rack has a place for the bottom hook in the center. Also as this is a very large bag, you'll need extra space to avoid heel strike.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers:

I waited until my 1600 mile camping trip was over to evaluate this set of panniers. All in all, they performed satisfactorily, holding a great quantity of gear, and keeping the rain out. The down side of being completely waterproof is that anything damp that is put into the bag will make the interior humid, and everything gets damp. putting such items in their own dry sacks is best. The method of attachment, using a bungee cord becomes unreliable when the bag is heavily loaded, and mine bounced off several times. Part of the problem is that the top hooks are not adjustable, and may not engage the rack well. They also need to be bent more closed, which is easy to do. The bungee cord may begin to stretch over time, but so far it only is a problem if the bag's very heavily loaded.
More reliable attachment methods are found on the big name bags, but for the price, these are a good buy. They contributed to a successful trip.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers:

I use these bags on my daily commute. Because of the way the bags attach to the rack they can fall off going over bumps.

I have only lost a bag once, but as it slid down the street it wore a hole in the bag. So next time it rains the bag wont be waterproof.

However, the bags are cheap, and there are two of them, so I will take the one without a hole if rain is expected.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Rear Panniers:

I purchased these for light touring and transporting groceries in town. So far they seem to be well constructed. The rack hooks and how they are attached to the bag are fairly light weight and according to other reviewers could be reinforced. They have held up well for the limited use I have given them. They are fairly long so with size 9.5 shoes have some heal strike issues My chain stays and rack are not very long so others may not have this issue.
