The Reynolds Eighty One carbon tubular wheelset shares many of the same features as the clincher set. They are a full-on, deep profile carbon time trial wheelset, but like all tubulars, they drop some weight: only 1600 grams for the set. The Eighty One carbon wheelset features a super-aerodynamic 81mm profile that slips through the wind with ninja-like finesse. The high modulus carbon fiber rims also feature Reynolds' patented Swirl Lip Generator design, which channels air over the rim's surface to improve aerodynamics and add extra stability in crosswinds. Reynolds sealed cartridge bearing hubs deliver smooth, maintenance-free performance, and strong and lightweight DT Revolution/Competition spokes lend stiffness and strength without adding excess weight. For maximum braking effectiveness, the Eighty Ones feature Reynolds' CTg brake track system, which dissipates heat so efficiently that under braking, these rims run as much as 100 degrees cooler than standard carbon rims.
No matter which side of the tubular vs. clincher debate you cling to, we're pretty confident that one ride on the Eighty One carbon wheels will convince you that as far as performance is concerned, Reynolds didn't make any compromises here.
