It's no wonder Hutchinson chose Cobra for this tire's moniker as its both lightning fast and strikes fear into its competitors. The Hutchinson Cobra 29 x 2.25 has a nice, wide footprint and the densely clustered knobs are optimized for stellar performance on dry, loose and rocky conditions. Additionally, the tall side knobs grip like nobody's business when you're diving into corners. A host of technology is tucked into these beauties such as the Race Riposte dual compound, Hardskin cut-reducing reinforcement, plus it's good to go for tubeless set-ups. And with plenty of design input from multi-time Olympic and world cross country champion Julien Absalon, you know it's your ticket to the top.
Race Riposte dual compound increases tread longevity, lowers rolling resistance and increases side knobs' grip
Hardskin technology under both the tread and sidewalls provides added resistance to tears and cuts
Denser knob count improve traction and provides lower rolling resistance in dry, loose, or rocky conditions
Comments about Hutchinson Cobra TR RR 29" Mountain Tire:
While a bit on the heavy side, these tubeless tires appear to be quite durable--a plus given this was bought to replace a tire whose sidewall was slashed on a rock. Did have a problem with the install. Aside from the tight fit (common in tubeless tires), the unique and confusing "FRONT - ROTATION - BACK" on the tube (what does this mean?? no information on the Hutchinson site) was/is confusing regarding the direction of the tire. Only was resolved when I found a Press Camp 2012 product video in which the representative confirmed the directional pattern is "counter intuitive" as it is designed for "braking traction into corners... The close knobs mitigation rolling resistance." http://reviews.mtbr.com/new-2012-hutchinson-29er-tires
