Nashbar is sending a message to the world that Fat is Beautiful. Our Big 'ol Fat Bike is a marvel of mountain mania that truly must be experienced by every legit mountain biking fan.
Like many of your favorite mountain bikes, Big ol' Fat has an indestructible butted chromoly frame and fork set that is tight, light, and dyno-mite. With such a stout frameset the component spec had best be bombproof, too, but have no fear because SRAM is here. The SRAM Hussefelt Howitzer crankset comes from the realm of freeride and downhill so you know tolerance for punishment is in its DNA. The crank's 44/32/22t chainrings, combined with a SRAM PG950 11-34 9-speed cassette, provide the perfect gear ratios for raging through any type of terrain imaginable -- from the snow and sand fat bikes were born out of to whatever mix of roots, rocks, and rough stuff you've got locally. The SRAM Howitzer bottom bracket, too, is no joke as its stout chromoly spindle, machined aluminum cups, and oversize cartridge bearings re-define durability.
SRAM also takes care of shifting duties and their X5 shifters and derailleurs provide worry-free, quick action gear changing all in a super tough, built-to-last aluminum construction. While this fat bike is so much fun to ride you may have a hard time stopping, when it comes time to actually decelerate the Hayes MX5 mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors front and rear have got you covered for any and all conditions. Cockpit-wise Kraton rubber grips will keep you in the saddle where you belong while alloy no-rise bars and a +/- 7 degree alloy stem ensures some great steering action.
Now for the Fatness: You're rolling in total comfort and jaw-dropping style on a pair of alloy 26x2 ¾ " wheels--that's right, 2 ¾ inches or 70mm for those of you north of the border or across the pond. Upon these beasts is a pair of 4" tires so you can run them at very low pressure (like in the 10psi realm) for cornering like the kind from your dreams. With the added width and girth you'll also immediately feel more stable and that stability translates into trail confidence. After all, you won't have a great time if the front end feels twitchy or squirrely. And what about big air? Forget about it...the Big ol' Fat has an enormous wheelbase, and the wheels generate centrifugal force like no other bike...this means sweet mid-air and landing control.
So now for the first time, it is highly encouraged that you get fat.
