Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Repair
From shifters to derailleurs, pedals to handlebars, this bicycle repair book covers every component of a road bike. It helps new bike owners tackle simple to advanced projects, listing the tools needed, explaining bike components, and demonstrating with detailed illustrations how to work on each part.
  • From simple, routine maintenance to more complicated tasks, Zinn remains "convinced that anyone with an opposable thumb can perform any repair on a bike"
  • He begins with "Basic Stuff" such as pre-ride inspections and cleaning the drive train, and continues on through the super-advanced task of wheel building--arguing that "the construction of a good set of bicycle wheels is actually a straightforward task"
  • Zinn guides readers step by step through every possible repair on every possible part, handlebar grips to Mavic Mektronic electronic shifting, with plain-speaking text and helpful illustrations
  • There's even a section on emergency repairs, including unexpected advice such as straightening a bent rim by hitting it against the ground: "You may be surprised how straight you can get a wheel this way"

Comments about American Cycling Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Repair:

This book is great for teaching & reference. I needed to learn about maintaining my bikes as it was too expensive to go to the bike shop for every little thing. I like that the book concentrates on 1 subject, everything that relates to road bikes. A friend loaned his book, which covered all bikes, but a third of the book I had no use for. The book included Scam's new yaw shifting system which I knew nothing about, that my latest bike has.
I don't like the hand drawings, although clear, I personally didn't like, but they did the job.
        Buy it you'll like it!

Comments about American Cycling Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Repair:

I am a novice in road biking, and borrowed this book from a friend. For me, it was very helpful as a starting place. I learned about bike sizing and choosing the proper frame, crank, stem, and setting positions. It also helped with beginning maintenance on the bike.

First off, they misspelled the title. It's supposed to be Zinn, not Zen. As in Leonard Zinn. Either way, it's a good book.
