Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I put this on my hard tail, mountain bike after trying three, modern plastic saddles with a variety of padding. Note that I no longer use my mountain bike for mountain biking, so my experience only relates to riding on roads and paths.

I followed the recommended procedures for treating the leather on the top and bottom of the saddle before I mounted it. I also put an Aardvark waterproof saddle cover on it to prevent it from getting wet.

Although the Brooks Flyer was never painfully uncomfortable, after 300 miles it became very comfortable and has only become moreso with additional mileage. Now I would describe it as the most comfortable saddle I have ever owned.

I haven't done more than a 5-hour, 60-mile ride, but I had absolutely no discomfort at the end of those rides, unlike previous rides of that length on the plastic and gel padded saddle(s). It does creak occasionally, but I don't really mind that considering how comfortable it is. With proper care, I expect the saddle will outlast the bike and may outlast me.

NOTE: The short rails will limit the amount of fore and aft adjustment you can make.

What saddle is no longer the issue

Best Uses

Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I find that I no longer think about whether the saddle is comfortable or not, it just is. The downside is that there is a break in period, although I found it still comfortable from the start, it just becomes better and more of a bike issue that you don't have to think about anymore.

Just know that it is heavy (if you want lighter than go with the B17 for the non-sprung version).

I'd reccommend this saddle to anyone, especially those who are comfort oriented like me as a 50 year old man getting back into cycling. With government budgets getting thinner and them not maintaining roads like they should, I think a sprung saddle is becoming a must along with riding fatter road tires (I currently run 700 x 28c) to help smooth out the bumps in the road.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I should start with the fact that I'm middle aged and just started mountain biking recently so I may be seeking a bit more comfort than a pro. My bike came with a small shoe-horn on the end of the seat post so I replaced it with a big memory foam padded saddle. Both turned out to be rather uncomfortable. I read quite a few reviews and ultimately decided to try this one and I'm glad that I did. It's surprisingly comfortable. It seems much less compliant than the big padded seat I had before yet it's quite a bit more comfortable. I've heard that it will be truly comfortable after a fairly lengthy break-in period but it's quite comfortable now so I'm not concerned with speeding up the break-in period. I'm using the Proofide as recommended by Brooks so that hopefully this saddle will last me a long time. I am getting used to the slickness of it and if I had to list a con, that might be it but it's less a problem and more of an adjustment. In many ways, the slickness is actually beneficial, you just have to get used to where the seat is as it seems to disappear sometimes.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I used to ride years ago as my only means of transportation and I never got used to the seats and in later years that memory kept me away from bike riding. I started reading about the different type of saddels people road on long bike rides and the Brooks kept showing up as the best ride. I tried one and am now riding 35 miles 2-3 times a week with no bumm issues! Wish I knew about Brooks years ago.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I had the B-17 for years, and that is also a fantastice saddle. Then I transitioned to the Flyer to help absorb some of the potholes in my commute and I fell in love with it. It has the best of both worlds - brooks comfort with shock absorbing springs. It may be heavy but for commuting, long rides, ceturies, etc the extra weight is SO worth it. You won't be sorry with this choice! Worth every cent and more.

I have had the saddle for a year. Mostly commuting it felt very comfortable. but I just rode a century today on the saddle. No pain and no saddle sores on my bottom. Absorb most of the shock from the bumps in the road. I am going to buy one for my mountain bicycle.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I have a box full of expensive saddles. I tried them all but they all had issues. I was never fully comfortable on my bike. Eventually based on recommendations from hard core tour riders I tried the Brooks Flyer. It was comfortable from the start and just got better from there. I now have put three or four thousand miles on it, including two RAGBRAIs. The seat just disappears under you and is no longer a concern. I can ride all day - put in a double century and get off with no numbness or sores. Great saddle well worth the bit of extra weight.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Saddle Men's Black Top Saddle:

I placed it on my rode bike 4 years ago and have never taken it off. I now have ridden 5,300 miles and the saddle still looks great, almost like new. The saddle is no longer flat and smooth but rather dimpled to comform to the shap of posterior. With this saddle I know longer have problems with pressure points and pain. The leather has even got wet a couple of times and it the kept its form and shine. I have recently purchased a new road bike for the Oklahoma Free Wheel and my Brooks will replace the new saddle.
