Comments about Brooks Flyer Sprung Saddle:

Very comfortable from mile 1 ... still used Proofide ... The saddle comes with the adjusting wrench (no need for that for a long while) , so if you need Proofide, buy the 40g tin, not the 25g with the wrench and cloth "kit". Just position the saddle correctly on your post, with a very slight front lower than the back (not precisely parallel). This classic is beautifully manufactured, great leather (I got the "Honey") , and the springs add to the look and the comfort (not too springy ... just right).

Comments about Brooks Flyer Sprung Saddle:

This saddle replaced another leather saddle that came on my bike. The other saddle was very uncomfortable but this one is like silky-smooth chocolate for my butt. the price is well worth it! i haven't riden very far with it yet, only 40ish miles but i am loving it this far. The spring isn't, well, um... springy. it doesn't bounce you around as you ride. it does absorb a lot of bumps and jolts. that was my main concern and if that is yours, don't worry about that. it is just right.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Sprung Saddle:

Leather is great but not enough. Leather AND springs make this the definitive touring saddle.

However Nashbar's price is not particularly good. I have seen it for $20 less elsewhere.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Sprung Saddle:

This is the most comfortable saddle I have ever owned. Totally comfy on the first ride. (I did pre-treat it with mineral oil applied to both sides.)

It totally beats my B-17 Champion Ti saddle even when the B-17 is mounted on a seat post shock. It is just a bit heavier than the afore-mentioned setup, way more comfy, and costs 1/4 as much!

Two days ago I rode 90 miles (including 6 miles of washboard gravel) in the Flyer with NO butt, back or neck discomfort. Great for long rides.
The springs are stiff enough that there is no instability, but they cushion perfectly.

You will need to care for the leather. Mineral oil works very well for me.

My advice: cut down on the weight of your bike elsewhere, so you can use this saddle. If the saddle were lighter, I'd give it 5 stars.

If you are a racer, you already know this is not your saddle. But if you are anyone else, give it a try. It probably IS your saddle!

Comments about Brooks Flyer Sprung Saddle:

I have this saddle on my touring bike, which has really transitioned into my everything bike. Simply put, this saddle works as intended. The standard B17 without the springs is probably better if your riding position is more bent over. For more upright riding positions, I recommend the Flyer. I found this saddle to have little to no break-in period; mine was comfortable right out of the box and had already begun molding to my shape after about 20 miles.

The only fault I can find with Brooks saddles is the cost, but in this case you get what you pay for.

And the saddle pictured on this page is not the color of the actual saddle. It is actually the Brooks honey color. The one pictured here is the brown that is available only on the "Flyer special" - or perhaps it's just not a good image.

Comments about Brooks Flyer Sprung Saddle:

I bought one of the Brooks Champion Flyer Saddles and put about 1500 miles on it in a summer, including a couple of centuries and a 4 day, 325 mile tour. My butt stayed nice and comfy all the time. For short rides of less than 50 miles, I don't even bother with a chamois now.
