Comments about Nashbar Chain Rivet Tool:

Got a new chain; needed a rivet tool to shorten chain to the right length. Cheap dept. store tools don't do the job.

Comments about Nashbar Chain Rivet Tool:

I've owned a few chain rivet tools in my time. This one is perhaps the worst one I've ever owned in terms of reliability. The handle is nice and it screws in an out OK. But, if you look at the product photo you will see that there are 2 thin fingers sticking up that you are supposed to place the chain link in when pushing out the pin. When you put the pin back into the chain you are supposed to put the chain on the screw side of those fingers to take pressure off the link to make it swivel freely. Those thin fingers will bend and eventually break off. I do a lot of bike repair and modifications. I currently own 12 ride-able bikes, 1 is a tandem. I change chains often and need a reliable tool to do that. This isn't that tool. Think about the "blue" company for reliability and toughness. Pay more - get quality.

Comments about Nashbar Chain Rivet Tool:

It worked really well until I bent, then broke the pin. I like the tool, but I could pull out the pin, so I went to Nashbar's website to order a replacement pin, but there isn't any way to get one.

much easier to use than the small chain removers and much cheaper than a Parker tool.

Comments about Nashbar Chain Rivet Tool:

First time i have used a chain rivet tool. I looked at online videos on how to use it. I got the rivet out fine but putting it back in the tool bent right away. I am professional mechanic just not on bikes.
I ended up borrowing a 'blue' one from a friend and it worked no problem. I am going to pay extra for a stronger tool. Normally i have no problem with Nash Bar equipment. Of course i love i can return it with no risk.
