Comments about Nashbar Cassette Lockring Tool:

It was a few bucks more than a lock ring removal tool that requires a wrench or socket but the guide pin make it worth the difference. It isn't extremely heavy duty but is strong enough for my purposes.

Comments about Nashbar Cassette Lockring Tool:

I wanted to mount a new cassette and the LBS charges about $15 to $20. After looking online on how to do it, I decided to buy the tools and do it myself. It was a snap. The wrench works great, and I saved myself a few bucks too. Note that this works only with Shimano and SRAM, so for my Campy stuff I'll need a different tool.

Comments about Nashbar Cassette Lockring Tool:

Like most cyclists with just one bike, I don't need to remove my cassette all that often. But when I do, I want it to be reasonably easy and I don't want to hurt myself doing it.

In the past, I've used the Park lock ring bit locked into my vice pliers, which is awkward and undependable, at best. I also use the Park chain whip to keep the cassette from spinning while I'm trying to loosen it.

With the Nashbar Cassette Lock Ring Tool, what used to take 10 minutes and a lot of effort now takes about 10 seconds and minimal effort. I can't even explain why. Maybe it's just the extra torque provided by the attached arm.

In any event, although I probably will not need this tool for another year or two, I am glad to have it in my tool collection and I am glad it was only about ten bucks. My only regret is that the stabilizer pin inside the lock ring bit is not removable, which would enable me to use it on friends' bikes that don't have quick-release wheels. For these, I will have to hold on to my Park lock ring bit.
