Comments about Nashbar Woody Multi Tool:

I must have a shoe box full of multi tools. Some pretty good, others not so good. This one surprised me by how good it really was. Like most multi-tools, it has limitations, but not many. It's heavy, but that is because it is packed full of tools. Not one, but two different sizes of each screwdriver type, which to me is a VERY good idea. A #1 and #2 Phillips. A 3mm (1/8) and 5mm (13/64) flat tip. A full compliment of hex wrenches and some are duplicated with a "L" bend to them. Which prove quite useful. A chain tool that I have actually used and it works great. Just be careful and not push the pin all the way out. Which this chain tool will let you do. The spoke wrenches work good too. I wouldn't want to build a wheel with them, but roadside truing is just fine. My bike does not have torx screws, but there are two sizes included as well. In fact about the only thing not included are are 8 and 10mm wrenches. But I have those in my kit and it probably best to have those separate so that you can use the tool on one side and the wrenches on the other. It also lacks a sleeve that you can slide on to keep the tools contained and not poking holes in your bag. I remedied this by cutting a section of MTB tube to a length about double the tool's and sliding it over the tool. By folding the tube doubled-over, I get a pocket for the short wrenches to go in.

Oh yea, it also includes the ubiquitous bottle opener. When was the last time you needed one of those?

All in all, a good tool. In fact about the only fix I couldn't do with it was tighten a friends road brake lever when it came loose. The 5mm was too short.

Now I want to address an issue that other reviewers have mentioned. One of the hex wrenches falling out. Many of the reviewers have mentioned bending it to keep it in. Well before you do that, is it the 3mm L-shaped wrench? if so, DON'T BEND IT. It is supposed to come off. It is used to tighten the screws on the tool itself and thus the friction on the tools as well. The way this works is the shaft has two flats on it. If the 3mm L-shaped wrench is not aligned with those flats, then it stays in the tool. When you want to remove it. Rotate the tool while lightly pushing on it. When it lines up with the flats, it will pop out of the tool. This is by design. Don't go fixing it.

I wish Nashbar would let me post pictures. I have a couple of pretty good ones to illustrate the removable 3mm wrench and my using the inner tube to make a sleeve.

If it had included a sleeve and the 5mm hex was a bit longer (for road levers) I would have given it five stars.

Comments about Nashbar Woody Multi Tool:

It's a good looking tool, great for gifts. One allen wrench came undone right away, as many other reviewers noted. I adjusted it with pliers, but you have to be careful to adjust it just right or it wont move around.

Great tool for the price. A little heavier than some the others but much more user friendly. My only thought for improving is to replace the wooden grips with some mini tire levers.

Comments about Nashbar Woody Multi Tool:

I bought this as an all around multi tool for daily commutes (32 miles/day) as well as touring. So far it's held up really well, and I've used it whenever possible to really test it before I'm fumbling around on the side of the road in pouring rain without knowing what it can do. So far I've used it to adjust saddles, pull cranks, install pedals, break chains, install brake levers and adjust handlebars. It's an awesome tool, classy looking and you can't beat the price. It's not lightweight but that's not what i was going for--versatility was. The only complaint I have is that one of the Allen wrenches fit loosely and I had to pinch the end with pliers to get it secure. Other than that I would have given it 5 stars

Comments about Nashbar Woody Multi Tool:

This looks great and is a nice size. The chain tool works very smoothly which in not the norm in my experience. One of the hex keys fell off the pivot, so I'll have to bend it a little to get it back on and the movement of hex keys around the pivots gets awkward sometimes with so many parts.

Comments about Nashbar Woody Multi Tool:

Nice multi-tool, great for keeping in the truck or toolbox. However, it really has too many unnecessary hex bits and is too big and heavy for stashing in bike on-board tool kits or your pocket. I liked the integrated chain break and tire spoon but it is unfortunately too big to fit my saddle bag or camelbak stash pocket. The wood sides are a neat look and feel, but they really just add width and weight.

Cool tool. Haven't used it yet, that's a good thing.

Don't have a under seat tool bag to put it in right now.

Weighs 208G. But I don't know what other multi tools weigh, so ?

Good to have in emergency situations or to help someone in need.

You can't beat the versatility and value of this tool, which was purchased for about what you might pay for a chain tool alone at a LBS. You'll be able to help yourself or fellow cyclists with one of the 20 or so tools incorporated into this one stylish package. I don't know what the durability is yet, but for screws and nuts that aren't rusted in place, these seems sturdy enough to tackle a well maintained bike.

Comments about Nashbar Woody Multi Tool:

This little thing is freaking great. I kept finding myself borrowing tools from friends more and more frequently and decided it was finally time I started getting a few things of my own. This multitool and a couple adjustable wrenches are enough for me to fix almost anything on my bike. I brought it with me on a ride from central Pennsylvania to Portland Maine and it got used almost every day.

I've been really impressed with the design. One of the little allen keys is detachable and can be used to adjust the mutlitool itself so you can make the individual tools more or less resistant to twisting out. The detachable allen key also doubles as a chain hook so you don't have to get your hands all greasy if you end up having to add or remove chain links. The chain breaker itself is well-designed too and is easy to get enough leverage to pop rivets in or out. It's easier to use, in fact, than the crank brothers multitool that I had used previously to mess with my chain.

All of that said, there are absolutely better multitools available on this site and elsewhere. After a few days of rain the wood started showing some minor signs of wear and a couple of the metal pieces are showing some very small discolored rust-ish spots. Nothing that I didn't expect though, and nothing that inhibits the usefulness of the tool

Overall this thing is absolutely the best value multitool that I was able to find online. I expect it to last a long time and I would definitely recommend it to friends. Nashbar is awesome.
