Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

Since my handle bars are rather high, with the short wire on the sensors, I had a hard time wiring the bike without stretching the wire to the handle bars. But now that it is done, could not ask for a better computer. Temperature would be nice!

Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

This little computer works anywhere. I can use it commuting to work, I can use it on a hard training ride, or I can use it on any of the trainers that I have.
I have 3 of these and have own the first one i bought for many years with no problems, and it is still running strong.
I often switch the computers from bike to bike, depending on if i am comuting or training and they never miss a beat.
The rear mount system allows me to use them on my rollers or on a rear mount trainer. I love the versatility.

Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

Because I wanted to set this up on my Aero Bar, the wire could have been 4 inches longer to make a cleaner run to the rear. But did find a way to route it and it works great.
In just a short time it was installed and I was educating myself on the functions.
Very simple to operate and very acurate compared to my Tracker App with GPS.

Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

I installed it on my training bike. I have to confess that I thought that I wasn't going to get something worth to use on my daily training when I saw the price. I was wrong, you can choose and customize you screen. I can simultaneously track speed and cadence, you can actually switch the data order on the screen:like speed in large digits on top; or put the cadence instead and the speed at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I mix it with distance or time ridden, just to give some examples. But the point is is a lot bang for the buck. Of course if you don't mind the wires, which I don't because I know that I'm getting true readings with no interference like you get with the wireless ones. A little piece of advice: put a tad bit of dielectric grease at the contacts and you'll never have a problem when riding in the rain. Very easy to install, just plan ahead of time the routing of the wires, before you use the wire ties. Read the instructions well before you do anything as to how to locate the sensors or the magnets, specially installing the cadence magnet, try it before you peel the back self adhesive tape and secure it with the tie. Check the distance between the crank and the frame, you'll notice that you can "rotate" the sensor so it would get in "range" with the magnet. I have other bike computers, but I love this one for training, it's simple, very useful, accurate and it won't brake your pocket.

Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

I bought two CatEyes, one for my Hybrid and one for my wife's road bike. I selected this product for its low cost and many features including cadence. Installation on my wife's bike was a bear, taking about an hour because the two wired sensors had to be mounted on the chainstay. Also, the chincy magnet wouldn't fit her spokes. I stripped it trying. I then used an old magnet from a Bell computer and the problem was solved. Setup of the computer was easy. I ride with polarized sunglasses so I checked out the display, which is smaller than most these days. It was very difficult to read the display mode acronyms through my sun glasses. The Trip Distance failed permanently after the first time I reset it. With all these problems in the first few days of ownership, I uninstalled the CatEye from my wife's bike and shipped both units back to Bike Nashbar. The people at bike Nashbar were very helpful. They gave me full credit and suggested that I talk with their service department before ordering replacements. After hearing my story and listening to my requirements, they suggested that I look at the SHARP line. I did, I bought two SHARP BC 1009's and they are wonderful.

Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

Great bike computer, can't beat getting this unit with cadence for the money. Works fine, a little tricky to install properly - maybe 1/2 hour to install, adjust and set up. Online directions are much more helpful. Gets 4 stars for operation, loses one star for installation. I had difficulty getting the frame-mounted sensors just right on my oval tubed frame. I wound up using two-sided adhesive foam (left over from some project or another) to secure units in exact location, then using the provided twist ties to further secure to bike frame. The sensors moved too much with just the twist ties. The cadence sensor comes with this type of adhesive, and works well. I don't know why the company doesn't add two more small foam pads for the sensors. I would recommend this type of installation. Once installed, works great!

Comments about CatEye Astrale 8 Bike Computer:

I would use this as a constant reminder of my stats after every ride like ave speed, top speed and distance that I usally record in a hand written log. However having come from a simpler "wireless" cyclometer I found it hard to adjust to the wires I had to install with all the zip ties and having to be very careful not to jar them too hard when I packed the bike away for a trip in my RV. I could have gotten used to that but I had purchased this on the recommendation from another reviewer in California who claimed that the odometer was programmable in other words one can transfer mileage from an old cyclometer to this new one. That is plainly NOT SO! I could not live with that so I returned it.
So if you dont care about the unsightly wires, zip ties and no transferable old mileage then perhaps this is for you. Cant beat the price though.
