      Transform Road Bike into Commuter

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

Bought this to use on my road bike, as it has no mounting locations for a rack (nashbar aluminum/carbon road frame). I, like others felt uncomfortable cranking it onto my carbon seat post, so I just bought an extra saddle (more comfort oriented, for commute ride) and stuck the rack and new saddle on an aluminum post I had laying around. Now I have a 1-bolt transformation from road bike to commuter! I only carry 1 pannier bag, and ride pretty aggressively on far less than smooth Sacramento surface streets, and have had no problem with the rack moving around at all.

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

Haven't used it too much yet, but here are some observations: (1) its a bit heavy (2) the clamp seems very solid -- can't imagine it slipping (3) no rubber shim between clamp and seatpost -- suggest doing as others have recommended (repurpose an old inner tube) (4) my legs rub ever so slightly on the clamp (5) I didn't dare to attach to my carbon-fiber seatpost -- maybe I'm just too cautious

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

Purchased to use on my commuter. Rack works great for a bike without rack brazes. Mount is sturdy and will hold just about any size pannier setup. Only draw back is the clamp does add about 1/2-3/4 inch to each side of the seatpost. For most this will not be an issue, unless your seatpost is short or you have larger than average legs in which case your legs may rub as you peddle. All in all this is a great rack for the price and versatile.

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

Have a ten year old FS Mongoose that has been fully modernized with air shock, triple tree forks, etc. I recently turned it into hybrid e-bike for long distance off road adventuring (on the trails I can't legally take my enduro) and yes I have to petal otherwise it wouldn't be very long distance.

I have piled 30-35 lbs (I believe the mfg, rates it at 40lbs... Note: I wouldn't recommend a light xc seat post of any material) on the rack lipo battery / gear. I haven't had any side to side swaying. It may help that my seat post is 31.6mm helps it stay locked down. Very Happy thus far and as beefy as it is, it,s feels like a feather weight.

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

I used this rack (after trying others) on a mountain bike I used to have (sold it in 2008) with disc brakes and frame geometry that precluded the use of a regular rack. Delta makes good hardware. The pannier support is very good for a seatpost rack and it worked fabulously at making a workhorse out of a near-race-level hardtail.

Like all seatpost racks, however, it needs to be tightened down and very well to prevent it from moving around under load.

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

This rack was a breeze to install and seems to be really well made, tough and surprisingly lightweight. I've used it several times and had a pretty heavy bag attached to it and it didn't give an inch. Seems to be very versatile too, allowing for several different ways to attach things. My only complaint, the reflector bracket is INSIDE the main tube and mine had slid all the way down to the very bottom of the tube. Had a devil of a time getting that bad boy out but I did and it attached easily once I had it out. Just be aware that there IS a bracket and that's where it's located. At least you don't hafta worry about it getting lost in shipment there. :-)

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

This is a good rack for when a traditional mount won't work. The only downside to a seatpost rack is that you may get a bit of a sway in the rear with the bags weighed down. I don't think I've been hitting over the 25 pound limit, but I have carried a backpack with a 5 pound laptop on one side and a whole change of clothes on the other side (including phone, wallet, overly large knife I always have) without any real issue.

Another note: mine had a hidden surprise. I've used it for 2-3 months on my commuter bike. I was doing some work and had the rack off of the bike when I noticed a rattle inside. I pulled the plastic cap off the bottom and spied a pastic bag with hardware inside. It was a mount for a reflector that can be modified/implemented for a reflector or flashing red LED.

Comments about Delta Post Porter Rack:

I bought the Delta Pannier Support rack to go with a full suspension bike that couldn't take a normal rack. I've also used it on a bike that had disc brakes and couldn't take a normal rack.

Installation is pretty straight forward. Just latch it on to a seat post. I used a section of inner tube to cinch down on to provide stability and to help prevent metal on metal grinding. I've never had an issue with the rack being unstable or moving around.

There is a quick release version and I specifically didn't want quick release because that just ends up being one more easy thing to steal. The bolt on version isn't thief proof but it's enough of a deterrent to a passerby thief. The bolt on version also latches on tighter than I could get the quick release version.

My primary usage was for attaching a trunk bag that had drop down panniers. My normal weight load was 10-15 lbs. I did go over the 25 lb. limit a few times and there were no issues.

The rack also acts as a pseudo fender.
