Comments about Michelin Pilot City Commuter Tire:

Tires are very solid and puncture resistant. My commute is a glass strewn metal shard post-apocalyptic nightmare and I was having trouble with puncture resistant tires plus tuffy plus thorn resist tube plus slime.

These with regular tubes have been puncture free for weeks, well over 100 miles per week. I've pulled nails and glass out of the tire repeatedly that didn't make it through.

They are not light or super fast. However, they are faster than the big apples I was using before. Installed easily and visible at night.

They appear very good quality but time will tell. I have to agree with other reviewers, they were a real bear to mount. Two pinch flats in rear! The first 100 miles have been great.

Comments about Michelin Pilot City Commuter Tire:

I bike beachside alot, tired of leaks from thorns and other road debris. These are great, and so far, NO problems. Very easy to mount,I soaped up the beads abit, and they slid on easy, and inflated perfectly on the rim. Obviously they dont do well in soft sand/off roading, and i didnt buy them for that...very pleased.

      Good Tires

Comments about Michelin Pilot City Commuter Tire:

I put a set of these on my 29er SE Stout, and I've been commuting on them for a few weeks. No complaints. Easy to mount. Low price and good value. Seem well built. They are probably a bit heavy, but I'm not concerned. I weigh nearly 300 lbs and I've put about 300 miles on them in Brooklyn and Manhattan with no problems and no flats so far.

The reflective sidewalls are not perfectly aligned with the tire sidewall (probably the same on any similar tire design), but it's not a big deal. The placement of the reflective tape probably varies 2mm or so around the full circumference of the tire.

Comments about Michelin Pilot City Commuter Tire:

I purchased these tires directly from Nashbar- just last week.

While others might complain about the difficulty with mounting this tire, I might say that those folks probably don't know how to roll them on.

It's cold here today, and it was yesterday when I mounted the new purchase. I can see why some folks might say that mounting them is a bit difficult if the tire were "dry" while installing them, but using something like baby powder or soap and water during the installation makes it a snap.

After my initial test ride around the block, and some more coffee put into my belly, I cast off across the city of Houston for a 25 mile round trip ride.

On that ride I found that the tires are really quite solid. The side walls hold very firmly in tight corners at both low and high speeds. Their thickness seems to absorb bumps fairly well; although I must note here that I had some spongy old Kenda Kwick-trax that had about 1,000 miles on them.

All-in-all, these tires are to perform as designed and needed. Although I never had a road flat on my old set of tires (which offered *no* advertisement on being puncture resistant) I do not anticipate having any issues with these tires.

I expect this tire to last several years of daily use for my 10 miles a day of commuting. It is a little heavy, but I am happy to accept that for fewer flats on my way to work.

Comments about Michelin Pilot City Commuter Tire:

These tires were very difficult to mount. It was a wrestling match to even get one side of the tire around the rim. They are much thicker at the bead than other tires I have mounted; I had to be very careful to keep the tube's valve stem aligned and pulled out of the hole in the rim. Once both sides of the tire were inside the rim, the stem was completely immobilized by the pinching of the two sides of the tire.

However, the tires appear to be well made and ride smoothly. After riding on them for about sixty miles, I dismounted one tire and found that it was much more supple and easy to handle. I suspect that these tires have been shrinking since manufacture, but return close to their intended diameter after being used for a while.

My advice is, don't try to mount these tires unless you are familiar with the subtleties of doing the job.
