Poorly designed and odd looking

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

Despite it being advertised as designed to minimized heel-strike issue, that's exactly what the main problem is. Even with the lower straps taped to the bag to keep them away from heel-strike, these bags mounted on a medium sized mountain bike turned commuter (with fairly long chainstay) still rubs against my size 9 shoes. It seems the design is flawed, as the lower/front part of the bag is pointed closer to the heel location, when the pannier is put on the rack. I wish I somehow tilt the bag by relocating one of the mounting hooks. The panniers also slid forward, after I had them hooked to the rear-most part of the rack. It's a little clumsy to remove the panniers, having to reach behind the bag to loosen the strap.
Secondarily, I think the panniers look quite hideous. Functionally, I like the outside pockets and the dual zipper.

They are a bit tricky the first time you put them on, but the learning curve is shallow. Their volume is surprisingly large.
        >>>CAVEAT< < < These panniers are identical to each other. They kidney shape cutout is great for foot clearance on the right hand side, but on the left, they curve toward the front, reducing clearance.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

I mounted these on an older Diamond Back bike with the Delta rear rack. One of the selling points was the crescent shape which promoted clearance from your feet. Unfortunately, the heels of my size 12's still kick the bag. I had to get really creative to mount these up and back to get my feet to clear. Your mileage may vary. Otherwise, these are a good value.

This is my second pair--I use them front and rear. The best value out there, have used these for commuting and touring. Not waterproof, but the rain covers work very well. Large capacity--so you need to take care in loading, but great size for bulky lightweight items like sleeping bags, etc.
A good, lightweight pannier for everyday use or for touring--highly recommended!

Best value out there--not too heavy, and they are commodious! Bought them for commuting and used them on a tour from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. They might offer more space than you need--but on tour the extra space is always welcome.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

Panniers were larger than expected. My summer sleeping bag, 2 person tent, self inflating sleep pad, camp stool, backpacking stove and fuel all fit with room for a few other items.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

These were quite a bit larger than I imagined. True to the stats listed, but of course you don't know how they're gonna look until they're mounted on YOUR specific bike. For my uses: I use a 20" wheel folding bike for tooling around short trips in town. Occasionally I wanna grab some groceries and wanted something flexible for that and the obvious jacket, cap, maybe a laptop.

On my bike, the bag is at the upper limits of what I can mount on the rear rack which is lower to the ground than a full-size. It's very smart in color and materials. Works great, unless I take a corner sharply, where the bottom scrapes the road. Bag has held up the few times that's happened, but as there's no added protection there, I can see that wearing through over time. There's enough room for a good spread of items, although, due to the tapering, you need to arrange carefully. Seeing as this pannier(s) doesn't come with a handle or strap, it's not easy to carry when loaded. So I ended up zip tying mine to my bike. Then placing items I need to carry in a secondary bag inside (Eg: soft grocery bag or lightweight crushable daypack).

The material isn't super durable, but also not featherweight where it feels like it's gonna rip. So I could see someone stitching a strap to the sides or rear for ease of carrying. (You'd still have the bulky top hooks though). I haven't gotten it wet yet, but the zip is on top and fastens with a final little velcro piece on the top side. In a downpour, your contents are guaranteed to get wet, but should be fine in a light shower. If you need more protection, look elsewhere.

I wanted to have one pannier (gear side) installed permanently and the option of adding the 2nd for longer trips. BUT: the hook location on left and right panniers is not a mirror image (at least on my pair). That meant my RHS pannier had to sit further forward on my rack, to avoid a lateral bar, resulting in my heel kicking the thing. So it's effectively useless. Other, larger racks will likely not have this issue. But seeing as the hooks are not adjustable and can't be repositioned without ruining the bag, my RHS pannier is a gift for someone else...

All in all they're good mid-quality panniers. Fine for daily good weather commuting. Not touring. No padding or sleeves (except for 2 thin external zipped pockets (cellphone, keys, folded shirt, e-reader maybe), so electronics will want to be in a padded case first. For the price, a no-brainer. Just wish they had a carry strap and adjustability.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

Packs are deep and held my backpacking tent, sleeping bag, etc. without issue. The straps were not easily adjusted on my 62cm frame. A few big bumps dislodged packs a few times. They may be fine on smaller frames. One zipper head tore off but zipper itself worked fine. May recommend for smaller frame.
