Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

Best value out there--not too heavy, and they are commodious! Bought them for commuting and used them on a tour from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. They might offer more space than you need--but on tour the extra space is always welcome.

Panniers were larger than expected. My summer sleeping bag, 2 person tent, self inflating sleep pad, camp stool, backpacking stove and fuel all fit with room for a few other items.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

These were quite a bit larger than I imagined. True to the stats listed, but of course you don't know how they're gonna look until they're mounted on YOUR specific bike. For my uses: I use a 20" wheel folding bike for tooling around short trips in town. Occasionally I wanna grab some groceries and wanted something flexible for that and the obvious jacket, cap, maybe a laptop.

On my bike, the bag is at the upper limits of what I can mount on the rear rack which is lower to the ground than a full-size. It's very smart in color and materials. Works great, unless I take a corner sharply, where the bottom scrapes the road. Bag has held up the few times that's happened, but as there's no added protection there, I can see that wearing through over time. There's enough room for a good spread of items, although, due to the tapering, you need to arrange carefully. Seeing as this pannier(s) doesn't come with a handle or strap, it's not easy to carry when loaded. So I ended up zip tying mine to my bike. Then placing items I need to carry in a secondary bag inside (Eg: soft grocery bag or lightweight crushable daypack).

The material isn't super durable, but also not featherweight where it feels like it's gonna rip. So I could see someone stitching a strap to the sides or rear for ease of carrying. (You'd still have the bulky top hooks though). I haven't gotten it wet yet, but the zip is on top and fastens with a final little velcro piece on the top side. In a downpour, your contents are guaranteed to get wet, but should be fine in a light shower. If you need more protection, look elsewhere.

I wanted to have one pannier (gear side) installed permanently and the option of adding the 2nd for longer trips. BUT: the hook location on left and right panniers is not a mirror image (at least on my pair). That meant my RHS pannier had to sit further forward on my rack, to avoid a lateral bar, resulting in my heel kicking the thing. So it's effectively useless. Other, larger racks will likely not have this issue. But seeing as the hooks are not adjustable and can't be repositioned without ruining the bag, my RHS pannier is a gift for someone else...

All in all they're good mid-quality panniers. Fine for daily good weather commuting. Not touring. No padding or sleeves (except for 2 thin external zipped pockets (cellphone, keys, folded shirt, e-reader maybe), so electronics will want to be in a padded case first. For the price, a no-brainer. Just wish they had a carry strap and adjustability.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

Packs are deep and held my backpacking tent, sleeping bag, etc. without issue. The straps were not easily adjusted on my 62cm frame. A few big bumps dislodged packs a few times. They may be fine on smaller frames. One zipper head tore off but zipper itself worked fine. May recommend for smaller frame.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

After much research this was the best deal I could find for a roomy pannier for less than $50! Though the shape looked like it allowed for big feet--watch out! I had to carefully attach to my bike by placing them as far back as possible on the rack. I have size 12 feet and the lower compression strap will strike your feet if not careful. Also the mounting hooks and strap are adequate but do not make a tight fit. I semi-permanently attached them with zipties also. I dont intend to remove them when parked. They are quite roomy and allow for me to slip in a thin backpack to hold my items when off the bike.
All said, I am totally satisfied with this pannier!

    Good at the sale price

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

I've had the panniers for 2 months now and they seem well worth the sale price. Not the most rugged looking, but good enough. They have double zippers, which make for a large top opening to get big stuff in and out. They seem well made. But one of them was missing a compression strap on the back; perhaps that's why they were on sale. They didn't come with instructions. Once I figured out how to attach them to my rack, they fit tightly and don't bounce. Taking then off is easy, just undo the plastic clip, but getting them back on is a little trickier. Also, the tops stick up over the rack so you can't attach a basket or anything else to the rack while the panniers are attached. You can't turn them inside out to wash the insides, which is a little pain. Another small con is that they don't have handles so you can't use them as shopping bags at the market (which would save 10¢ each trip.) Also it took me a month to find the rain covers located on the bottom of each pannier in it's own secret compartment.

    Plenty of room

    By MiataMatt

    from Jersey Shore

    Pros

    • Lots of Storage

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • City Bikes
      • Commuting
      • Road Bikes

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

I described myself as "Industrial worker" for a reason - I have to carry a complete change of clothing, shoes, shower gear and food to work when commuting. These bags are big enough for all that, necessary repair equipment for a 20 mile one way commute and there is still room for more. They may be called "compact", but seem HUGE.

The bags are not easy to remove once on the rack tightly, but I put my stuff in grocery bags then stuff the bags in the panniers. The double zipper top allows easy access for all the bulky stuff going in and out.

The only reason I rated them a 4 was the straps were too long for my compact rack. But, my wife shortened the straps by folding them over on themselves and stitching them together with nylon outdoor use thread. Mounting after that was easy and very secure.

For those that ride in the dark - the piping is reflective and there are spots to mount lights on the back of the bag to keep you as visible as possible.

And Oh yeah..... you cannot beat the Nashbar price. GREAT product.

Comments about Nashbar Euro Compact Panniers:

I bought these after having to ditch my ancient Kirtlands and after wasting money on an internet bag. I've been pleasantly surprised, didn't expect the quality and functions for the low price. Best feature is that the bags have enough room for my commuting stuff, yet by mounting them back on the rack, I have no problem with my size 13s hitting the bags. The volume isn't mega, but when I tour with these, I'll use front bags to balance the load anyway. The double zipper on the main compartment is nifty. Pulling it back makes a wide opening, and if you overstuff the compartment, you don't have to risk tearing the zipper; you can just keep it unzipped and attach the zipper flap to the piece of velcro at the top.

The attachment to the rack is different from what I've used before--no stretchy cord or spring, just a strap that tightens as you pull up on the handle after engaging the bottom hook in the rack. I'm not even sure why this works, but it does. Creating slack in the strap to remove the bag requires reaching in to fiddle with the strap from the inside and is a little awkward. The two side pockets don't bulge out as on other bags and will be handy for carrying less bulky things.

I haven't yet had a chance to test the rain cover. I put things I want to keep dry in zip-locs in any case.

As noted, the bags seem a bit heavy, at least compared to my Kirtlands. They might be comparable in weight to other bags made today, though.
