Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

Product works well as long as your bike is centered well & not too heavy, & repairs or adjustments are minor. As a Christian, I try to to reduce CO2 emissions by commuting to work & running errands by bicycle; hence, I almost always have a pannier or trunk rack or handlebar bag. The extra weight & off-centering--even with my somewhat liteweight touring bike--does reduce the stability of the Stand-by-Me.
Also, the stand doesn't include much protection against asphalt, stones & other abrasives, & when the paint rubs off, the steel might rust quickly. So, I added some protective tape under the supports at the bottom. Covering the supports with trashed inner tubes would probably protect even better.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

Is this the best bike stand? No. It is a good one that beats the one you don't have. This is very portable, can be quickly disassembled and reassembled as needed with few tools, carried in your car, taken on camping trips that have other people and their children with bikes. If you want more than basics spend more get more.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

The Stand By Me bike stand is super convenient lightweight stand, and worthy of its price. I gave it 4 stars because I had to make a slight modifications to make it fit my bike. (explanation below)

I used to just lean my bike up against the garage door, but I finally got tired of my bike falling to the ground whenever I needed to lube the chain or give it a quick wash.

For the price, this stand fits my needs and it stable enough to spin the cranks to lube the chain, or hold the bike while I make adjustments.

I did have to bend the hooks to fit my bike. I ride a Cannondale Six that has tapered chain-stay (triangle of tubes near the rear axle). That means the space between the chain-stay and the spokes is really tight.

When I first assembled the stand, the two hooks (blue in the picture, but red on my stand) hit the spokes preventing the rear wheel from turning. My bike computer pickup magnet attached to the rear wheel, so this limited where the stand could be placed.

I ended up using a piece of pipe to bend the hooks into a tighter U. I was able to bend it enough to clear the spokes and my pickup magnet: problem solved.

I also bought 4 rubber tips from my local ACE Hardware store. I use my stand on my asphalt driveway. The rubber tips made the stand more stable on my un-even driveway (~$2.00 for pack of 2). I probably didn't have to do this, but it was just a couple bucks for the packet, and I was already at the hardware store.

For what it does, and the price; it's a keeper.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

I wanted something to hold my bike's rear wheel off the ground while preforming maintenance or adjustments on it, without having to clamp it onto a regular work stand all of the time, and the Stand-By-Me is just right.

No instructions came with the stand so there is a little trial and error while assembling it. But once it is properly assembled, it works like a charm.

The two support feet are a little short, so you have to be mindful that it could tip over if you get too rambunctious with your work. A quick and easy fix would be to slide a couple of longer PVC pipes over the feet to prevent the tipping problem.

All in all I am happy with my purchase and would recommend the Stand-By-Me, keeping in mind that it comes without instructions, and it may tip if you're not careful.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

At first it was very unstable so I had to do some slight modifications to the legs. Now it works fine. I use it for cleaning and light maintenance. It beats spending much more for a full size work stand.

Great product but would have appreciated instructions on which nuts to use where. It didn't seem like the threads on the hooks were long enough to accommodate 2 nuts to use in a locking fashion, but seems to work ok.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

The Stand By Me bike stand is suitable for the purpose for which it was intended: to support the rear wheel of a bike in order to work on the drive train and rear brakes. It is not a fully-supporting shop stand and will not bear up to major torquing of fasteners. I would recommend this stand for anyone wishing to do light maintenance.

The only downside to this stand is the fact that the assembly instructions are vague and hidden on the bottom of the box, but assembly is pretty much a no-brainer once you look it over, so this con is extremely minor.
