Better than similar non-oil lubricates as it goes on and stays clear. Doesn't turn milky white.

Comments about Nashbar Dry Chain Lube 8 oz:

Just purchased for the first time and applied. I'd say at least half of what came out of the bottle dribbled down the side and did not make it to the chain. About half of what did make it to the chain dripped right off. Yes, clearly I applied too much. But there is no way to control what comes out of the bottle. It just comes out making a mess. After application I backpedaled and the lube came off onto my tire and chain stay. I can't speak for the lubricating properties yet but the application of this lube was very messy. I've used other chain lubes and did not have this problem.

I was using Finish Line Dry Teflon. I picked up a bottle of this, with an order, because the reviews seemed good.

I went back to using the Finish Line. The difference was when I put on the Finish Line, I could tell that I lubed my chain. It pedaled smoother and easier. When I used the Nashbar Dry Lube, it didn't feel like I just lubed the chain. No improvement was observed.

It just didn't do it for me.

I use this in very dry conditions only in Los Angeles on my MTB which is set up for training on the road. It works very well and the chain, cassette, and chain rings pick up very little dirt and grime. A quick wipe after each ride keeps everything very clean and working smoothly. Bike shifts smooth and runs quiet. I'm getting about 80-100 miles per application.

This is some of the cleanest and best performing lubes I've tried. It doesn't last quite as long as some wet lubes, but for the clean and smooth working drive train, I don't mind reapplying every 100 miles or so.

Comments about Nashbar Dry Chain Lube 8 oz:

Use on my SRAM Force drivetrain. I really like how it makes the drivetrain function - smooth as silk. And very notable: there's no buildup of gunk on the chain or drivetrain and the chain/ drivetrain does not turn black with use. However, the cost for a clean drivetrain is the need for frequent applications: the chain is dry enough to require more lube in about 50-75 miles. For me thats a small price to pay for the overall excellent benefits of this product. I love a clean and well functioning drivetrain and don't mind the effort to get it. I hope Nashbar never stops making this lube.

Comments about Nashbar Dry Chain Lube 8 oz:

This is an effective lubricant, and it does a good job of penetrating the parts and bringing dirt and metal residue to the surface immediately. The residue doesn't seem to get gummy or greasy--it wipes away quite easily with a rag. You can actually clean your chain pretty well just by applying this lube, cranking the chain around a couple dozen times, and wiping off the excess with a rag. A second light application provides enough lube to last through a few rides. After using this lube for several rides, I've run my chains through the chain cleaner and the cleaning solvent stays pretty clean, so it seems that the lube is doing a fine job.

The only problem with this product is that I can't really use it indoors, as it has a fairly strong petroleum odor (think naphtha or kerosene.) This isn't a problem on my mountain bike, which stays in the garage or storage shed, but my road bikes are stored in the house, and I do several hundred miles a year on the indoor trainer. A light application of this product makes my large 18' x 20' training area smell like a filling station for a couple of days.

I will go back to using White Lightning Clean Ride for my road bikes, and save the Nashbar Dry Chain Lube for the mountain bikes. The Clean Ride is wax-based, and doesn't double as a cleaner, but it carries only a slight alcohol smell which dissipates within a few minutes of applying the product, making it more suitable for indoor use.

I have tried many lubes and this is superior to all of them except for Pro-Link but Nashbar dry lube is just about as good and costs less. It does not accumulate on the chain, pulleys, or rings nor get black immediately like others. It is also a great cleaner so just re-lube generously every 150 miles or so and you will never have a big mess to deal with. I have not tried it on a wet mountain bike ride yet and that might be it's limit.
