Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork
Nothing will make your cyclocross or touring rig ride smoother than an upgrade to a carbon fiber fork and boy do we have a deal for you. The Nashbar Carbon Fiber Cyclocross Fork features stout carbon fiber legs to soak up the vibrations that also deliver plenty of stiffness to handle hard braking and rough terrain with aplomb. And speaking of braking, you've got options in that this beauty is set up for both cantilever and disc brakes. The aluminum steerer tube is plenty strong and requires a bit less TLC than carbon versions and for those still on frames set up for 1" forks you're in luck as we aim to please with both 1" and 1-1/8" sizes. It's most definitely time to breathe new life into that 'cross or touring machine.
  • Large diameter blades and aluminum crown provide rigidity needed for hard braking and rough terrain

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

I upgraded my 2009 Fuji cross with this fork since my bike did not originally come with disc brakes. I wanted to find something equivalent to what I already had and this was it. I caught it at a good deal too. I would say it's definitely good quality, but not top of the line. However, that's not what I was looking for, just a replacement for what I currently have. Definitely a great improvement for my bike. Make sure to purchase the right size and make sure this is the type of fork you need for the bike it's going on.

I replaced the original steel fork on my older Kona Jake. There were no unexpected problems; and so far the bike rides noticeably smoother. Good upgrade.

I replaced a heavy suspension fork with this lightweight carbon fork. Its incredibly lightweight. It looks well designed and durable. Time will tell. All I can say is my bike looks great with it, even though the colors aren't a perfect match.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

Used this as a replacement for a pretty massive suspension fork on an old Specialized Crosstrail I converted into a road commuter. Although not as light as an all-carbon option, it does make a huge difference on the bike, especially on hills. I'm currently running it with 700x30mm slicks and cantilever brakes with no issues. I think 32mm tires would still be fine, but 38mm would probably bind a bit up top (I think someone else noted this in another review). After about 200 miles it still feels great; hard to find any fault with it considering the price; I would definitely recommend.

Bought this for my recumbent (to allow a wider tire). It appears solid, but you pay a weight penalty for that construction. Much heavier than listed.

Added this to our Cannondale tandem so I could run both disc and cantilever brakes. Added bonus it saves a lot of weight over the standard steel fork. Looks to be very beefy ride is nice with no appreciable flex under braking.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

I admit I was very skeptical when I originally saw this fork for sale on Nashbar.com. The price seemed too low for the fork to be of any decent quality. I am happy to admit that I am pleasantly surprised.
Although my main sport is mountain biking I have a Kona Jake CX that I use for long distance training on and off road. Things I've noticed over my stock AL fork is: the bike now has that "subtle softness" and the "minor damping" sensation that can be felt through my arms and upper body. I have owned carbon road bikes before and it definitely brings back some of those qualities. The quality of the fork seems good, they seem to have blending the aluminum inserts (dropouts, brake mounts) and aluminum steerer seamlessly into the construction. I was slightly worried about something failing at first but all seems well. I have taken the fork through some basic single track, 40+ mph downhills, and everything in between. Seems to be well worth the price.....couldn't be happier for the price.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

I bought this to replace a ridiculously heavy, stiff, straight steel fork on my Raleigh Roper. The idea was to shed some weight and get more vibration dampening. It is definitely an improvement, and at a great price. It was heavier than I expected, though still lighter than the fork it replaced. This is because of the alloy steerer and the very heavy duty carbon legs. But the all carbon options were all three times more expensive so I am happy with the trade-off. One other thing to note is the canti brake bosses are NOT removable. If you don't like the look, you'll have to saw them off.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

Most of the other reviews have this fork covered. It's a fairly light fork and one of the only options if you have a 1" head tube and want to run disc. Not ultra light but respectable weight. Mine did have a bunch of scuffs on it right out of the box. Not a deal breaker but not a huge fan of receiving products that were so poorly stored.

Main problem is the shape of the legs, specifically near where the hub attaches. There is more or less a sharp transition to the QR mounts on the inside of the legs, unlike most carbon forks which taper smoothly the length of the fork. This basically prevents a ton of disc hubs from being used with the fork. When you cinch the hub to the fork, the fork itself contacts the upper part of the hub, right outside of where the spokes attach. This prevents the hub from spinning. So basically if you are actually running this fork with disc wheels, straight pull hubs seem to be worse, there's a good chance this fork won't actually work with your wheels. There's absolutely no way to fix this unless you file about a quarter inch off the non-disc side of the fork which is probably a really bad idea. I've tried with several different sets of 700c disc wheels, all different hub brands, and several of them have this problem. Unless you have one of these forks to test, there's no way to know if this will be a problem until you get them both together. I personally don't have a ton of hubs to test with so it's more or less a coin toss finding a disc hub that doesn't contact the fork. Even a quarter inch difference in the fork design would have prevented this. My guess is that they designed this only after speccing older non-disc, non straight pull, hubs.
