Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork
Nothing will make your cyclocross or touring rig ride smoother than an upgrade to a carbon fiber fork and boy do we have a deal for you. The Nashbar Carbon Fiber Cyclocross Fork features stout carbon fiber legs to soak up the vibrations that also deliver plenty of stiffness to handle hard braking and rough terrain with aplomb. And speaking of braking, you've got options in that this beauty is set up for both cantilever and disc brakes. The aluminum steerer tube is plenty strong and requires a bit less TLC than carbon versions and for those still on frames set up for 1" forks you're in luck as we aim to please with both 1" and 1-1/8" sizes. It's most definitely time to breathe new life into that 'cross or touring machine.
  • Large diameter blades and aluminum crown provide rigidity needed for hard braking and rough terrain
  • Carbon legs soak up the vibrations to save your hands and arms
  • Both disc and cantilever brake compatible
  • Axle to crown = 391mm
  • Axle to Max Tire Height = 366mm

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

I bought this to replace a ridiculously heavy, stiff, straight steel fork on my Raleigh Roper. The idea was to shed some weight and get more vibration dampening. It is definitely an improvement, and at a great price. It was heavier than I expected, though still lighter than the fork it replaced. This is because of the alloy steerer and the very heavy duty carbon legs. But the all carbon options were all three times more expensive so I am happy with the trade-off. One other thing to note is the canti brake bosses are NOT removable. If you don't like the look, you'll have to saw them off.

Flawed design / leg shape

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

Most of the other reviews have this fork covered. It's a fairly light fork and one of the only options if you have a 1" head tube and want to run disc. Not ultra light but respectable weight. Mine did have a bunch of scuffs on it right out of the box. Not a deal breaker but not a huge fan of receiving products that were so poorly stored.

Main problem is the shape of the legs, specifically near where the hub attaches. There is more or less a sharp transition to the QR mounts on the inside of the legs, unlike most carbon forks which taper smoothly the length of the fork. This basically prevents a ton of disc hubs from being used with the fork. When you cinch the hub to the fork, the fork itself contacts the upper part of the hub, right outside of where the spokes attach. This prevents the hub from spinning. So basically if you are actually running this fork with disc wheels, straight pull hubs seem to be worse, there's a good chance this fork won't actually work with your wheels. There's absolutely no way to fix this unless you file about a quarter inch off the non-disc side of the fork which is probably a really bad idea. I've tried with several different sets of 700c disc wheels, all different hub brands, and several of them have this problem. Unless you have one of these forks to test, there's no way to know if this will be a problem until you get them both together. I personally don't have a ton of hubs to test with so it's more or less a coin toss finding a disc hub that doesn't contact the fork. Even a quarter inch difference in the fork design would have prevented this. My guess is that they designed this only after speccing older non-disc, non straight pull, hubs.

This is not an ultra light fork but it appears to be of quality construction.

BEWARE: THE FACE WHERE ONE WOULD MOUNT A BRAKE CABLE HANGER IS RECESSED, THEREFORE MAKING IT NEARLY USELESS.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

I don't wan to totally trash this fork because I liked it as an affordable replacement fork that is 1 1/8" straight steerer as most bikes have moved to tapered steertube.

The downside though is my fork cracked around the non drive side drop out almost all the way around. This had happened in under a thousand miles of easy use, nothing too rough. I'll try one more time, thanks to Nashbars return policy, but I'm kinda disappointed so far

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

This fork is replacement for a heavy suspension fork (that I hated) on a bike used for touring and camping. It's Forking Great! Sooo smooth.

One caveat - very little clearance between tire and inside of the crown with a 700c-38 tire. Had to use a spacer in the dropout to get some clearance.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

Have replaced the straight bladed aluminium fork on my MARIN FAIRFAX SC2 with this one.

With this fork, the bike is stable in 'out-of-the-saddle' sprints/ climbing.

I'm a big fan of curved fork blades and 'V' brakes - this is one of the few forks I know of that still ticks both boxes.

The shape of the drop outs and blade junction means one has to align Shimano QR skewers in front of the fork blade instead of straight back/ parallel to the ground.

We've got 3 delivered so far (in India) and all have arrived in perfect condition - take a bow Nashbar's packing team.

Comments about Nashbar Carbon Cyclocross Fork:

Nice fork, but the black paint chips very easily on top the crown (under the bottom race.) Hard to fix the paint with brush on emamel. Carbon blades with aluminum painted crown and aluminum steerer. I bought it to go with the Nashbar touring frame 60cm and it is a good fit for that. Will use it with canti brakes, even though I could go disk for the front if I want. Seems like a good sturdy combination alloy and carbon fork. Should last long, with chipped paint crown!
