Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

Although the pedal installed easily, there's a design flaw that prevents the cleat from reaching and securing to the clip. The pedal's cage has these raised nubs on both sides that are likely meant to provide traction for a casual shoe. However, these nubs too high on the clip side; the cleat can't get close enough to secure into the pedal. And this was with a Nashbar brand bike shoe.

I'm used to clipping in with SPD and look style pedals, and I couldn't make these work even after adjusting the tension on the clips. Other reviewers commented on sanding down the pedals' nubs to make shoes fit. You shouldn't have to physically change the product to make it work for its original purpose. I'm returning the pedals and will buy a pair without a the nubs.

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

These pedals were not compatible with the SPD Shimano brand shoes I had to get. It looks like these pedals were designed to work only with same brand shoes - not cool at all! My own mechanical skill and ingenuity overcame the problem.

      Last word in casual pedals

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

I ride for a variety of purposes: exercise, casual, and commuting, and although I prefer being locked into the pedal, I sometimes ride with regular shoes. To be clear: I never put on spandex outfits with italian corporate logos nor do I lube down my hairy body with grease before a ride, although I used to compete in triathlons.

These pedals are affordable, reliable, and allow me to keep one set of pedals that serve all my needs. I had to tighten the springs with a simple turn of the screwdriver to keep my SPD cleats securely in place, but since then, these have been exactly what I need for all my riding. A few months ago, I also picked up Nashbar sandals, which are for bike shoes what these are for pedals. No awards for style, but all very practical.

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

These pedals are for my mountain bike that I normally ride on the road. This is my second pair of these and the last pair lasted me over 6 years and 2400 miles. One of the clips on the right pedal finally broke a screw and it kind of came apart. I was not disappointed at all, considering the amount of time and use I got from them. When I go off road or when I wear sneakers while riding casually, I simply use the other side of the pedal and it's like any other pedal. The non-cleat side is plenty large enough for stability with any kind of shoe. I would highly recommend this pedal set for anyone that might be using a bicycle for multiple purposes.

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

These are the only 1-sided cleat pedals that I can find that have the shoe pressing down on more than the cleat. The shoe actually presses on the pedal, too. As some others mention, this feature does make these difficult to get used to at first as the foot and shoe are rather close to the pedal, and, at times, requires one to use a heavy file or sander on some of the nobs that stick up from the pedals. But, on all other pedals like these, the rider just presses on the cleat part of the shoe. This is OK for expensive, carbon-fibre-soled shoes, but most off-road and touring shoes are made of softer material that starts to bend, after 3 or 4 rides, when the biker just presses the foot on the cleat part of the shoe. As a result, the cyclist's foot gets sore in the middle. Instead, with these "Nashbar Rode" pedals, the foot presses on the horizontal cross-pieces of the pedals as well as the cleat and this distributes the foot-pounds around on more of the foot's surface.

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

Tried to use these with a pair of Shimano XC-50 MTB shoes but the nubs on the cleat side of the pedal stick up above the cleat surface and interfere with the lugs on the bottom of the shoe. Makes it hard to engage the cleat and even harder to rotate my foot far enough to disengage. These may work OK with a different shoe. I didn't want to carve up my new shoes so switched to a non-SPD pedal. I will probably grind the nubs off the pedal platform and try again since I think it would be handy to have a big cage/platform on one side to use regular shoes and an SPD cleat side to ride clipped in.
These don't allow much float so getting the cleat placed correctly is a little tricky and time consuming.
Also in the little time I used them the bearings felt very rough compared to the cheap plastic pedals they replaced.

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

I have used clips at Spin class for years and decided to try them out on my Road bike. I have a 150 mile Road bike trip coming up and I want to try them on the trip to see if they make any difference rather then just wearing my sneakers with no cages. They do have a nice large platform so I can revert to my sneakers if I want too. They do takes some getting use too as does anything but I think they have been easy enough to use during my training trips that I will do fine as long as no one stops to quickly in front of me. I have my fingers crossed.

after stopping at a red light, my left foot did not engage in the light weight road pedal and the pedal ate my left leg from ankle to knee. my fault trying to hurry, but this new pedal allows for quick start without fear of not clipping in and slipping off.

Comments about Nashbar Rodeo Mountain Pedals:

I use my bike mostly for commuting to work ~5-10 miles and I wanted a pedal that I could use with my clipless shoes or regular shoes. I have been using old nashbar clipless pedals with no platform but those were annoyingly small to use with regular shoes. I installed the rodeos yesterday and had a horrible time trying to get my shoes in and out of the pedals. There are metal spikes sticking up that prevent the shoes from clipping into the pedal. This morning I cut them off using tin snips and sanded down the front until smooth but the front of the pedal cage still prevents the shoe from being flush with the pedal clip. I will probably have to sand the front down more. I hope all the sanding doesn't change the integrity of the pedal. Honestly for the price I would say that they are worth it, but only get them if you are willing to put in a couple hours of effort to get them to fit correctly.
