Comments about Park Tool CT-5 Compact Chain Tool:

I change my bike chain about once a year, this tool is perfect for that application and it will save me money from having to go to a bike shop and paying markup on chains and labor. However, I would not recommend for industrial use.

Comments about Park Tool CT-5 Compact Chain Tool:

I used this to break a new 6701 Ultegra chain.
The pins are very tight on this chain.
This tool did a good job. It has a dual shelf that allows you to fine tune the depth of the installed pin for a perfect non binding link.
The size of the tool allows it to be carried on a bike. I would like to see a bigger version of this tool for shop use.

I'm trying to take over more maintenance and repair items on my bike so I can save some money. This is the first time I've ever shortened a chain myself, and it was a snap to do.

As a side benefit, I now have a chain tool I can throw in my camelbak for long rides. I've been out several times with riders who needed a chain tool and nobody had one. Next time, I'll be prepared.

Park Tools are just high quality and this worked well on my old and new chain, for dismantling and sizing, respectively. A great value!

Comments about Park Tool CT-5 Compact Chain Tool:

I carry it on rides (non-racing) to repair broken chains.
Well made and aligns chain fairly precisely.
Be careful of the (removeable) rivet pin coming loose and getting lost. I lost a pin due to it vibrating loose. Fortunately I had a spare and have used rubber solution as 'threadlock'. I also keep it in a plastic bag in the tool kit - if the pin still comes loose, it won't get lost.
            Happy, safe riding.

Works perfectly as all Parks tools do. Not too big, plenty of power, nice feel for stopping the rivet at the right place. Light weight and small enough to pack for the trip. Cost vs. quality is excellent. Replaced several chains and shortened others on my bikes. Quick and easy. Thanks Nashbar and Parks!!

Comments about Park Tool CT-5 Compact Chain Tool:

I needed a chain tool small enough to stuff in my bag yet sturdy and easy to use. This fits the bill, although recently I saw an even more compact chain tool which had the drawback of requiring a hex wrench to use (most of us carry a hex wrench but it's one more thing to drop on the road).

Comments about Park Tool CT-5 Compact Chain Tool:

Perhaps twice each year, I replace chains. For the most part, I have done all my own work for 51 years of competitive cycling, including wheel-building. I recently broke a 48-year old English "pot-metal" chain tool: broke the soft-metal "ear" off. This park tool removed the pin easily - the one that broke my old tool.

Bought to throw in the bag - just in case. Haven't had to use it (yet) - and hope I never need to. Seems to be built solid. Small, but should be more comfotable to use that the chain tool found on most multi-tools.
