Shimano M520L Mountain Pedals
While the Shimano M520L Mountain Pedals may be priced for the entry-level mountain biker, their performance out on the trail will make them feel like they're worth a million bucks. Using the same mechanism for entry and release used by its rock star Shimano XT and XTR brethren, clicking in and out of these pedals is a joy to behold. Have no fear if the going gets sloppy as they work great in muddy conditions while their aluminum body and chromoly spindle are up to the task of withstanding all the punishment you can dish out while having a rip roaring good time riding in the woods.
  • Aluminum body and chromoly spindle are super tough
  • Adjustable spring tension, top and bottom
  • Sealed bearings make for smooth pedaling
  • Includes Shimano SM-SH51 cleat

Comments about Shimano M520L Mountain Bike Pedals:

I bought these clips and a pair of Exustar shoes as a last ditch attempt to "like" my new recumbent bicycle. It's possible that the clips might work ok on a standard bike, but they are impossible to reliably use on a recumbent. It took me dozens of attempts to seat the shoes into the clips and almost any bump was enough to dislodge them.

Between the uphill inefficiency of the recumbent and the difficulty with the petals, I'm probably putting the recumbent on Craig's List this weekend. The whole experience has been disappointing.

I bought my 520's for my single-speed about 4 years ago, and I've bashed them on curbs, wiped out many times, and generally abused the heck out of them! I ride about 200 miles/week, all year around...in michigan! I just ordered another pair last week; not because I need them, just want to be prepared for when these babies do finally fail. I have 540's on my mountain bike, and besides the price, I can see no difference!

Comments about Shimano M520L Mountain Bike Pedals:

I brought these to replace some, inexpensive pedals that were not adjustable and led to several zero-speed crashes. These are easy to enter and exit. I am starting at a lower tension to allow me to get out easily. I have the choice to tighten them as I get more comfortable getting out when needed.

Comments about Shimano M520L Mountain Bike Pedals:

Been riding for over 20 years, mostly off-road. Own various "high end" bikes, and various SPD systems. Saw these for under $25 dollars. Have not purchased new pedals in years just because they seem to be very durable and I take care of my stuff after every ride. But finally one of my 15 year old + SPD's started slipping. I have ridden with these "low end" peds for about 2 months now. NO issues. Easy ingress/egress. Seem to be very durable. Rotation is good and solid, classic SPD clunk/clip in sound, inspires confidence. As far as the "weight" issue, c'mon now, for the price and benefit, very much a non-issue. Ok, if I ever see a pair of XT's at 50% off I might go for it, but for now, these SPD's are an amazing bargain. Would highly recommend the M520L's.

Comments about Shimano M520L Mountain Bike Pedals:

Needed a new set of pedals for my indoor trainer. Did not want to spend a lot. Just a basic pedal that works. Not worried about weight or looks. These did the trick. Easy to install, clip right in, good tension adjustment. They may not be the prettiest, and I would never put them on a road bike, but why waste good money on the indoor trainer?

Would definitely recommend if price is an issue and appearance and weight are not. A good pedal at a very good price. Includes new cleats as well.
