Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

Bought this to put on my classic late eighties tourer to save wear on my vintage derailleur. Running eight speed rear with friction bar ends.
Shifts smooth. Cant say how it works with indexing.
Took it on a 15 day 1400 mile trip over dusty rail trails, gravel, and pavement. Rain and mud, heat and dust. Never missed a shift.

I plan on getting one or two more for some other bikes as their mechs start to wear.

Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

Easy to setup. Pairs well with the Nashbar MTB shifter I purchased. I've only tried my new setup on the road, I plan on taking this on the trail soon on my new bike. I may report back if there is anything noteworthy. I expect it will work just fine for my intended use.

Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

Tried as a replacement for an old deore XT. Worked fine as long as there were no hills, but as soon as I started pedaling up anything steep the shifting went haywire. Awful, replaced with an m772 shadow XT and the shifting problems on hills disappeared entirely.

I've learned my lesson about rear derailleurs -- buy nice or buy twice.

Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

Far and away the best rear derailleur for the money. I have now bought two, both of which have worked flawlessly and delivered quick, crisp, and precise shifts once adjusted correctly. I use Nashbar brand shifters as well. I have an X0 rear derailleur on one of my bikes, and I cannot tell a difference between the two unless I look at my bank statement. I did manage to slightly bend the cage of one of these derailleurs in a bad crash that also bent my rotor and wheel, but I feel this was completely user error and not the fault of the derailleur, although it is the only derailleur I've ever bent. I will never buy a different rear derailleur.

Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

Bought this derailleur as a replacement for an 80's circa touring bike. Needed something to take the place of an ancient Sun with stripped out adjustment screws. Searching uncovered this gem that installed easily and adjusted perfectly for the old Bruce Gordon. Being that the bike is lacking indexed shifting, ratios and such are not a concern.

Quality is high with a nice finish on all external surfaces. While the adjustment and lock screws hold their position with no concern on the road, I would want to keep an eye on them riding across rough surfaces like gravel and such. Compared to the long cage Shimano on my MTB, this one has much lighter spring tension on the cage. Again, not an issue on average paved surface. No ghostr shifting so far on smooth road rides.

I would recommend this for anyone needing to upgrade an older touring rig or for the kit of replacement parts on the sag wagon. Only time will tell on how it holds up to extended use as I have only managed a hundred miles of cruising with it so far.

I bought this for my wife's MT Bike. It worked great right out of the box. After two 15 mile rides in pretty muddy terrain, still shifting silky smooth!!

A high quality, well made component. I purchased this to replace an old Shimano Deore. Shifts smooth and precise. Maybe a bit on the heavy side for the competitive cyclist. But for a mountain or touring bike, this is a good value.

Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

This derailleur has everything you need in a wide range touring derailleur. It shifts smoothly and wraps a lot of chain. It's also indexable but works great w/ friction shifters. It's very light! Doesn't look too out of place on a classic bike. And the price is unbeatable, you can pay more and get less.

Comments about Nashbar Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur:

The derailleur has not yet been installed so I cannot provide any in-use feedback, so that is why only the 3 star rating. However, here are my pre-install comments: 1- I bought this Nashbar copy to replace an existing old Shimano XT unit. The catalog description and pricing was enticing enough to give it a try. 2- Physically, the Nashbar unit feels like it will do the job, construction is good, and the upper idler seems to have the proper slack. The appearance is good but very plain; it does not have the Shimano "bling". Of course the pricing says that you aren't paying for bling.
