Comments about Shimano A530 Sport/Touring Road Pedal:

With or without clips these pedals are great. Sometimes I wear bike shoes, sometimes I don't. Even when I do wear bike shoes it's nice to unclip and ride the flat peddles in a high congestion area, when getting unclipped quickly might be a problem or when starting out from a dead stop. I've put them on a road bike, a touring bike, a mountain bike and a bike trails bike. It's the only way to go.

Comments about Shimano A530 Sport/Touring Road Pedal:

I bought these, so that I could use bike shoes with the clips to get a better work out on my bike rides. I had to adjust them to loosen up the retention on the clips. They work fine.

Comments about Shimano A530 Sport/Touring Road Pedal:

Purchased this pedal as an entry option for clipless pedal and its adjustability. The original shipments were defective where the adjustment screws were ineffective. Nashbar exchanged the pedals until I received a set that worked. Great customer service. At the lightest setting the pedal is still a bit difficult unclipping on one side .Unsure if it is a pedal issue or technique.

Comments about Shimano A530 Sport/Touring Road Pedal:

These seem to provide a better, more secure fit than some other dual platform pedals. Shimano quality is consistently good, reliable and well manufactured. Clip in security seems slightly better than similar generic products, (which I also own), and spindle and bearing construction allows for smooth, low-drag action. Yes, there is a slight aero drag penalty, but unless you're going for every tenth, the difference is negligible.

A click in pedal is new to me. I just tested them for the first time. With a brief shaky start I think I'll get used to them. I'm excited about this new experience and the benefits to my cycling.
It seems like a good buy.

Comments about Shimano A530 Sport/Touring Road Pedal:

On my forth set since May. Nashbar has been good and refunded/exchanged every set. The pedals them selves are poorly made. Anywhere from the 2nd to 5th ride they all developed a clicking sound. I ride 50 to 100 miles a week either road or rail to trail, so not getting pounded on hard. It is the pedals as when I replaced with my originals, no clicking. Did not matter if I was riding on the platform side or the SPD side. I called Shimano after the 3rd time and their solution was to send them in and they would look at. In the mean time no clipless pedals. I am looking for an alternate brand now to replace these. Would not buy these and will be avoiding shimano.

Comments about Shimano A530 Sport/Touring Road Pedal:

These are very good dual use pedals, but they do have a couple of quirks. First is that the platform makes the pedal have less clearance when clipped in. I guess I'm used to pedals with more clearance and when I angled around a turn, these scraped a bit. Not a big deal and something I can tolerate for the dual use, but I was surprised by this. Second is that I was expecting the platform side to naturally fall downwards to make the pedal entry predictable, but that doesn't happen. Maybe it will eventually as the bearings loosen up. At least for now that means I have to look at the pedal to see where it is when clipping in. Other pedals I've used are always in the same position due to their weight balance so I can just snap in without a look.

Also, I ended up with a bum bearing in the left pedal. I'm assuming this was just a one off and I'm sure the exchanged pedal will be fine.
