Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

A workhorse crankset that shifts as good as most mid to high level compact cranks I see in other club member bikes. No the rings aren't as stiff as Dura Ace, Red or Record, but if your in the market for those you wouldn't buy this crank to begin with. The chainrings won't shift as well as the $120 dollar rings available for pros, nor are the cranks as light as top end cranks. ISIS is not as solid a stiff a system as the external BB nor is it as durable as old square taper systems. ISIS is a common spec and the BBs are readily available. This considered, you might need a new bottom bracket every 5000 Miles and the weight might cost a pro 30 seconds over the course of 50 miles, but this crank is an excellent buy for most us. It is very inexpensive, less expensive than shimano Claris for everything, and just plain works. It shifts as good as 105 and older Ultegra level cranks I've seen, and is usable on any frame with a threaded BB. It deosn't replace a standard crank where they excel, nor does it replace a triple for places where triples shine, but for the typical road bike this VALUE is hard to beat. I used the one I purchased with NOS Sora 3300 and Tourney shifters and it works well. No problems whatsoever. I imagine it would even better with higher end groupsets.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

I am at the age where I need to reduce my gears to save my knees. This compact crank is great at the price. Everything else was much more expensive. The weight was about the same as stuff twice the price. I can not detect any more flex than the Dura Ace crank (20 years old) this replaced.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

I bought this a replacement for my bike that constantly had issues with the non drive side crank bolt coming loose.

Before I purchased I made sure that I was getting the appropriate size of ISIS bottom bracket.

Installation was easy once I had the right tools.

Very statisfied, it looks great on my black bike.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

I bought my first CR2 and installed it on a black with silver lettering CAAD5, in place of the Centaur triple. The running around/errands bike. The black/silver trim of the crank makes the old Cannondale look better. With a 13-29 I get the same lowest gear as the triple without all the shifting. Love this crankset! I then bought a second CR2 and installed it on a carbon bike that was mainly Chorus w/ a carbon crankset 39/53. Plenty of black on this bike, too, especially the ROL wheels. The alloy CR2 actually looks better than the carbon sq. taper Chorus it replaced.
I am old and slow, so I can use the low gears a compact has. Looks good; rides good. Nothing about this crankset I don't like. If Nashbar offered it in silver, I'd put one on another bike, too.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

No, this isn't state of the art so don't expect light weight and sexy (beer budget doesn't equal champagne performance, get real). For a commuter bike, winter road bike, or casual roadie though, this simply does the job. Some carb cleaner on a rag gets rid of the (IMHO) cheesy pin stripes on the arms and the good old black permanent marker (great for touching up scratches on black parts!) took care of the Nashbar "N" on the big ring - presto! basic black, solid performer.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

This crankset paired with the Nashbar ISIS Bottom Bracket (Item #NS-ISBB-68X108) looks nice, went on smoothly. I expected a nice product and smooth installation and was not disappointed. Durability has yet to be tested, but it sure LOOKS like there should be no issue there. The serious racers will likely look for something lighter / flashier.
NOTE: (Make sure you use Park Tool BBT-22C Bottom Bracket Tool (Item #PT-BBT22C) or equivalent - my older Park BBT-2 tool will NOT fit over the large diameter ISIS BB's hollow axle - I learned that with my last ISIS BB purchase / installation.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

This is lightweight for its material. Looks good. Was very easy to install. Works well. Better than the horrible triple that came with my bike. I have put this guy through around 120 miles and has been strong so far. It has also been through one crit race and performed wonderfully; better than my legs. Its not a dura ace or sram red but it works well.

Comments about Nashbar CR2 Compact Road Bike Crankset:

Nashbar CR2 looks great and so is the price, it's just slightly wobble. I always hear and see when I look down the part of the big gear touching the side of the front derailure. I disassemble it twice already and tighten just about anything in the section and still have the same outcome. Just hoping this is the only defective one ;-)
