    Comments about Nashbar Isolation Shorts:

I ordered these and a pair of Gel Ride shorts. Both size large. The Gel Ride fit fine, but these were *a lot* smaller. Way too small for me to wear. I ended up giving them to my spouse who is much smaller than I am and they fit her fine.

      Comments about Nashbar Isolation Shorts:

I recently bought my second pair of these shorts because I like them so much and the price was right. The first pair I have worn several times on trips from 20-37 miles. There is no more soreness than with my Canari shorts, and that is minor and just the fact of being on a road bike for 2 hours. I wash them as directed, and let them air dry. The drawstring is still in place and functional. The Nashbar logo has not fallen off. It seems to be screen printed on. The padding is adequate, although I guess it could be a little more substantial. All in all, I'm happy with these and would recommend them to anyone.

They are better then I expected for the low price. If they hold up I will buy more. The pattern leaves them a little short in the back but it is not bad. I am satisfied with the purchase.

          Comments about Nashbar Isolation Shorts:

I bought these after reading some of the reviews. While I like the way they fit (I bought one up), the padding in these aren't great. I used these on a 25 mile ride and a little after 10 miles, I could feel everything! I do mean everything! Fortunately, we were taking breaks, but for the next 15 miles it was painful. I have not been this uncomfortable while riding ever! I am very unhappy with this purchase.

If it weren't for the discomfort, these would be pretty good shorts. They are well made and seem like they will last a while. While I'll use these again, I will make sure to use these for much short rides!

          Comments about Nashbar Isolation Shorts:

I received a gift of 2 Nashbar shorts: one "Isolation" and one "Eastside." The online product descriptions are unclear about how the two differ. Here's the only difference I could find: the "Isolation" has a slightly larger rise (distance from crotch to waist). The difference is about half or three-quarters of an inch--it's hard to measure exactly. In riding, I don't feel any difference between the two.

The fit seems good. My physique is more round than lean, so when the pants' waist fits the legs are a little baggy. That's to be expected. After more than 500 miles of touring and commuting in the two models, I can say that they are comfortable and they appear to be holding up well.

This is my first use of a gel chamois. Off the bike, the chamois felt large, stiff and clammy, especially at first. In riding, however, it is very comfortable--breathable enough, of a good thickness, and nicely shock-absorbing. I prefer it to the cloth chamois in my older pants.

The fly in the ointment is the waistband channel for the (flat) drawstring. It's just two slits in the fabric, no grommets. My washing machine (or the other laundry in the machine) invariably grabs the drawstring and pulls it partly or entirely out of the waistband channel. Because the pants have no grommets on the waistband, tying a knot in each end of the drawstring does no good. If I tie the 2 ends of the drawstring together, the drawstring loop gets pulled out and horribly tangled on the machine's agitator and/or other laundry.

I'm tempted just to throw the drawstrings away, as I don't need them now for fit. But as the pants age, the waistband elastic MIGHT slacken, and then I'll wish I had a drawstring. Of my two pairs of pants, one has lost the drawstring--MAYBE I'll be able to re-thread it if I need it later--and the other I'm now hand-washing. An annoyance in either case. So that loses the pants a star in the ratings.

The swooshy-N Nashbar logo soon fell off the "Isolation." I consider that a small improvement rather than a problem--but it doesn't help inspire confidence in the brand. FWIW, the different logo on the Eastside remains firmly in place.

Apart from the drawstring problem, I like the pants plenty, and the price was very attractive.

            Comments about Nashbar Isolation Shorts:

After 2 weeks and one washing they are already splitting at the center seam. The drawstring is not long enough. I am not overweight and did by and XL. I have to tie them very slowly and gently so as not to pull one end to far and be unable to tie at all. I tried without the drawstring and that did not go so well if you know what I MEAN!!! i GUESS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!

Product appears well constructed but sizing is way off! All other clothing I buy is xl and fits well. These shorts felt about two sizes smaller. I tried them on and all I can say is ... Painful! They fit my wife as she is 95 lbs smaller.

                Comments about Nashbar Isolation Shorts:

Picked up these because I don't like spending a fortune on kit. They're pretty good for the price. They are comfortable, fit true to size, and have a decent chamois. After about 2k miles they are stretching out a little bit and the chamois came apart where the two pieces are stitched together. I sewed them back up and it is still working but due to the lack of longevity I had to knock off a couple of stars.
