Comments about Shimano R540 Road Pedals:

I have these pedals on all 3 of my road bikes. They're easy to get in and out of. I wish they were a bit lighter but no big deal. It's not worth paying more that double to save a few grams. I used time and look pedals previously, but I like these much more

Comments about Shimano R540 Road Pedals:

I bought these in May of 2014 the time of this review is August 2014.

These pedals are ideal for beginners, or for someone who's not going to ride much.

The durability for my set was less than par. The right pedal has a horrible clicking noise only after a couple of months of riding. Roughly 700 miles. So i disassembled the pedal and found that the spindle was chipped, and the chip was grinding away my bearings. I love the looks of this pedal but it did not have the quality or longevity i was looking for. But the cleats that came with these did hold up, outlasted the pedals lol.

Comments about Shimano R540 Road Pedals:

I wish I hadn't waited so long to upgrade from SPD pedals. I had thought that SPD's were easier to clip in and out of than traditional road biking clipless pedals. I could not have been more wrong! These are amazingly easy to clip in and out of, yet feel stable and dependable while clipped in. While powering up a hill out of the saddle or sprinting, there is no sensation that I might inadvertently slip out, which happened several times with the SPD clipless I had used previously.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that I know there are lighter pedals out there, but at a substantially higher cost.

I ordered these pedal one for the price and two for the price. I am new cycling so I wanted to try these. I like them easy in easy out. The black does well with my blue and black lemons.

Comments about Shimano R540 Road Pedals:

Had bike shop install for five bucks. Old pedals were very difficult to remove. For five dollars I should have just called lbs first. Pedals are major upgrade for me as iI've been using mountain pedals and shoes on road bike for almost 10 years. Seem almost within 3 practices of on off very easy to get used too. Feelvery heavy but weight is not a major concern for me. My road bike is set up for training not racing by any means. Not super smooth and heavy weight are my only reason for 4 stars. Those two issues are only thing and for me they really meaningless. If weight and a super smooth pedal are top priorities for you then your price range is probably way higher than mine. For average Joe like me I'm super happy with my new nalini carbon shoes and these pedals for under eighty dollars.

gave these as a gift to someone new to clipless pedals. comparable weight to more expensive pedals, great balance and spin to make entry easy to learn and get used to, and good adjustability if you want a more rigid clip in or out. comes with everything you need, so why pay more when starting out?

Comments about Shimano R540 Road Pedals:

              Great pedals:
I was previously using shimano 2 bolt spd cleats on my road bike and i started Having issues with my left knee, constantly feeling a bother feeling about the angle of the heal in relation to the pedal making my knee hurt. Now that problem is mostly gone ( maybe i still have the feeling but it will go away if i get distracted), i feel like i pedal much more smooth the power transfer is greater. The pedal itself is a bit heavy but nothing to worry about. The spring tension that came with the pedal to me its perfect, maybe a bit too stiff for others, you can adjusted at your will. The installation was really easy no worries, the cleats have this yellow rubber pads that work really good , they provide good cushion. The clipping part is easy if you come from a spd 2 bolt cleat since this cleats are 3 bolt and way much bigger, a bit noise when clipping but i love it cause it turns heads :) . On thing though is that if you have a standard wrench it may not fit between the pedal and the crank arm so you will need to adjust it by hand and then get an ali wrench and thighten it .

Comments about Shimano R540 Road Pedals:

I bought this pedal 3 years ago as I got back into road cycling. It was the least expensive Look-style clip-in pedal at that time (and probably still is). Great pedal until I started riding 5 days/170 miles a week this past year, mostly urban cycling. All the clip out-clip ins really wore down the right pedal body(the shoe I unclip for stops). The left is okay but shows wear. But the right was is very worn to the point I'm feeling slippage when I sprint or do hard climbs. The pedal bodies are aluminum so this makes sense. I won't re-buy this pedal simply because I don't think it'll last a full year of 5 days a week and 175+ miles a week. I'm going for the 105's next, with a stainless steel body.
