Garmin Edge 500 For Biking Rocks!

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Cyclocomputer:

The Garmin 500 bundle for biking shines bright (thus far)! I've had it for about a three weeks now, and have rode with it about eight times or so.

It does what it says it can do all the time. HR, Cadence, Speed, Vertical Accent and Decent, GPS route mapping, upload to computer for the Training Center Analysis, and there is much more.

For me Functionality and Reliability are the most important characteristics in a bike computer.

This computer is PRO worthy and I probably won't use all of its features. And, that's alright because it is rock solid for what I do! Which is ride for exercise, weight control, and oh yes, FUN! I ride 3-5 times a week.

Garmin makes my riding interesting and Fun!

Only con is: sometimes it takes two tries to upload the Garmin 500 data to my computer. But, so far it always works on the second attempt if not on the first.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Cyclocomputer:

Had been warned by others that Garmin battery life for the cycle computer may be an issue but not the case for me. My longer rides are about 3 hours. The heart rate monitor only worked for about 45 minutes and quit. Its battery appears to have leaked /been defective. Replaced battery but operation is still flaky or non-existent. The heart rate monitor must be wet against the skin to work well which may be part of the problem. Nashbar offered me an exchange or some money back due to monitor battery issue-- OK with the refund. The cycle computer/GPS is good and I suggest getting the cadence detector but the heart rate monitor, at best, is more trouble than it is worth. I like both the Garmin online software and the easy connection with Strava.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Cyclocomputer:

Excellent construction and relatively easy to use. The one complaint I have is that it would be much better if you could work on settings without the unit searching for satellites. Since it immediately searches when turned on, it means that anytime I want to change a setting I have to go outside and wait for it to find satellites. Other than that it is great. Easy to use, sets up with heart rate and cadence/power meter quite easily. Scrolls through data screens nicely and numbers are big enough that I can read them without my glasses. Unfortunatley it can't be paired with an iPad. Have to plug into computer. Not a fault of the Garmin - Apple doesn't like to be mounted as a drive.

Comments about Garmin Edge 500 Bundle Cyclocomputer:

I bought the Garmin 500 about a month ago and have used it on several rides so far. This is the first GPS-enabled bike computer I've had, and I'm loving the ability to track my rides in detail, including HR, cadence, etc. I am currently having some trouble getting it to pair with my ANT+-compatible Giant TCR 2's RideSense transmitter but I'm sure I'll figure that out.
Also, I got the package that allows you to wear the 500 as a "watch" and went on a job with it. Awesome! I'll probably use that for hiking as well, although I have had some issues with the GPS's accuracy in the trees.
