Sun protection for daytime rides

Comments about Halo Headband Solar Skull Cap:

Great for sun protection and absorbing sweat from your forehead. I have used Halo headbands for years - this also addresses the issue of neck and ear sun protection.

Comments about Halo Headband Solar Skull Cap:

This is not what I expected and I don't like it as well as the older style. This one has a large tail that not only hangs down the back, but covers the ears too. Way too big, over the top. I think pinking shears are in order. Too much of a good thing is still too much.

Too tight for my head

By Magnus

from SF Bay Area, CA

About Me Avid Cyclist

Comments about Halo Headband Solar Skull Cap:

Upon receiving this, I tried it on, and knew right away it would be too tight, especially for its intended use in hot weather. Consctriction on the head is not something you want in those conditions. My head circ. is 23 inches. The band felt "rubbery", though I understand that is how the product works at removing sweat away from face. I think the concept is good, but perhaps a large size might mitigate these issues. "Yes" recommnendation above a qualified one.

Comments about Halo Headband Solar Skull Cap:

I live in the Calif. desert and often ride in 110+ degree heat. I wanted something to keep sweat out of my eyes and sun off my neck and ears. This does a good job of keeping sweat out of my eyes and it adequately covers my neck and ears so I don't need sunscreen. It is not too hot in moderate temperatures but in the desert heat during summer I have to keep it wet in order to not overheat. I use one water bottle for my inside and one for the head gear and my outside. If I stop and wet it about every 7 miles it keeps my head cool (best way to wet it is to stuff it inside the water bottle). My biggest complaint is with the black headband that seems too tight and the hottest possible color. Under my helmet the head gear is not going anywhere so the tight, heavy, hot headband only makes it less comfortable.

This is great so long as you do not intent to wear in the Summer. Too much thermal retention. If you are going to wear in the summer be sure to wet completely down.

      Not fond of skin cancer

Comments about Halo Headband Solar Skull Cap:

I bought this because I am not a fan of skin cancer and I don't particularly care for the neck line tan. I usually put sunscreen on, but I sometimes forgot when I was pressed for time. I love that this protects my neck from the sun and the bonus is the yellow band that redirects the sweat that would constantly drip into my eyes and sunglasses while riding. This is still very comfortable under my helmet and riding in San Antonio in 100 plus degree heat I didn't feel like my head was baking under the material.

Comments about Halo Headband Solar Skull Cap:

I have fair skin and use a lot of sunscreen. I bought this desert looking gear to protect my neck and ears. The trouble is the tail isn't wide enough to fit around the ears and it isn't long enough to tuck into the jersey. So it just flaps around in the breeze giving limited sun protection. It does keep sweat out of the eyes perfectly, but the rubber line will leave a mark on your forehead for an hour after your ride.
