Shimano 105 CN-5701 10-Speed Chain
Shimano precision is a pretty good thing to have on your side, whether you're racing for the finish line or crankin' out the miles on the back side of your favorite loop. The 105 Chain features redesigned inner and outer plates this year to increase contact with gear teeth for better power transfer and shifting under load. The new design also cuts back on chain suck, and gives smoother shifting on the cassette. Hyperglide compatible, 10-speed. Wt.: 267g (116 links). Double Chainring only
  • Asymmetric design with redesigned inner/outer plates virtually eliminate chain suck and improve contact with the cassette sprockets for smoother, noiseless shifting under heavy loads
  • Reshaped outer plate is perforated to reduce weight and chain suck
  • Reshaped inner plate lessens drivetrain friction for smoother rear shifting
  • Enhanced press-in construction offers stable shifting action
Double Chainring only

I get great shifting and good life from the 105's. Somewhere between 1700-2000 miles before reaching .75. My last one from Nashbar came with a master link?

            Comments about Shimano 105 Chain:

It takes longer to get out of the package than to install.Easy.Keep it lubed and it will last. The Nashbar/kmc. chain lasts longer but doesn't shift as good. Its a good alternative if the nashbar chain is sold out which I like better.Take care of it and change it out when needed and you will triple your cassette life.Keep in mind it goes on only one way. So if its your first time read the instructions.

                Comments about Shimano 105 Chain:

I bought this chain because I have 105 components and thought it might be the best one compatibility wise. Also, it was inexpensive. I installed the chain and rode on a trainer for several months with no problem. But like Dave, spring came, I took the bike out and the chain broke on the first hill (within a mile). Forget the pins, go with SRAM.

                  Comments about Shimano 105 Chain:

Certain things have changed over the decades but since 105 series came out it has performed well. The difference is usually painted vs anodized finishes and slight heavier weight. I do not trust all the little slits and cuts and hollow pins etc.. (Ultegra and Sram designs, although I do own and ride all three of these chains on a weekly basis.) The idea that a driveline needs to be 20 grams lighter damming all the tore-peedos at the expense of possibly stretching out in one sprint or catastopic failure. The stuff does seem to wear out faster than that of the old Campy era? Lighten up your engine, maybe ? But a Driveshaft Huh ?

                    Comments about Shimano 105 Chain:

I've been riding with this chain for approximately a jillion miles now. It is consistently durable, high-quality, and a good value for the money. I can't imagine anything other than improper installation that would cause this chain to break. Buy it.

                        Comments about Shimano 105 Chain:

I installed this chain and it broke on the first ride, resulting in a crash. Apparently one of the pins just pulled out of the link. Upon inspection, it is easy to see that there isn't much more than a very tiny machined edge on the end of the pins locking them in the link. On top of all this, the instructions for proper orientation and adjustment were very confusing and apparently didn't translate well from whatever foreign language they were written in. Poor design, and poor quality. Do not buy this chain.
