Comments about Nashbar Derby Softshell Jacket:

This was the one item I lacked in winter apparrel for riding. Received this jacket the day before an arctic front came through. Tested it in the cold the next day. Temperature was around 33 with a wind chill of 21. The jacket acted as a good barrier with only a long sleeve jersey underneath. I thought I would take a short ride for a test and ended up ride for an hour and a half. Body and arms were warm the entire ride.

Comments about Nashbar Derby Softshell Jacket:

Not sure if I reviewed this already, today I rode in 17 degree weather and I was fine wearing this jacket with just a thin heat shirt underneath. My toes were completely numb and my hands were cold, but my body was fine. Only complaint is the XL is a little short on me (6'2") and it doesn't really breathe. Jacket gets very damp with sweat.

Comments about Nashbar Derby Softshell Jacket:

The Derby soft shell jacket is a superlative product because it is so warm and has a wonderful stretch to move with you. The 3 rear pockets are large and well elasticized so nothing can fall out. The jacket material and construction seem indestructable with a smooth finish on the outside and a soft fleece inside. The stretch fabric and super stretch side panels enable a perfect fit for about anyone. It is both warm and very wind resistant so few layers are needed to permit sub freezing riding. Maximum temp you can use this with a thin base layer would be about 45 degrees. At 32 degrees I use 2 thin long sleeve base layers with this and I am toasty. Oh, and it comes out of the washer and dryer like new again even after covered in mud from mountain biking. It is obviously a great value as well.

Comments about Nashbar Derby Softshell Jacket:

Ordered this jacket as a windbreaker shell for commuting (10 miles a day) from 40 degrees and less. The jacket was a good fit. I'm 6'3" 215lbs, with the help of my wife measuring my chest I ordered the XL which is a very comfortable fit. I can layer up to a wicking base T, Polypro long sleeve, winter jersy, polarfleece vest. It was a comfortable night rode in 10 degree temps. Breathability may not be as good as gortex but it was a fraction of the cost. Overall I feel it was a good value.

Have used for commuting & recreational rides. Warm enough for rides in the mid-30's, good for lower temps. with layering. Rear pockets are easily accessable.

Comments about Nashbar Derby Softshell Jacket:

Jacket was too small, sizing is a little small. It is heavier than I thought, warm but does not breathe very well. Best for very cold weather when not climbing hills.
