Shimano RT82 Road/Touring Shoes
It's not easy to find a good, stiff, road shoe that performs just as well off the bike as on it. Shimano's SH-RT82 Road/Touring shoe is an exception. The combination of glass fiber-reinforced polyamide midsole, flexible insole and rubber outsole with recessed cleat is the perfect storm of multi-purpose performance.
  • Stretch-resistant synthetic leather/mesh upper
  • Flexible insole for a comfortable fit with a wide range of foot shapes
  • Rubber outsole features cleat recess for comfortable walking
  • Micro-adjust buckle and offset dual straps for comfort on and off the bike
  • Compatible with two-bolt SPD style cleats

Comments about Shimano RT82 Road/Touring Shoes:

I wear this shoe for road biking. Typical rides are 25-50 miles with some short walks for snacks and potty breaks at rest stops. My bike has the Simano PD-A600 petals which work very well with the shoe. The shoe fits very well if you get the right size. I wear a 9.5 US and the EU 44 was best for me. The 43 was painful. Pay attention to Shimano's size recommendations. I discarded the stock insoles because they didn't provide enough support for my feet and replaced them with Superfeet insoles (blue). The combo is wonderful. The shoe is much lighter, somewhat stiffer, and sleeker than a typical mountain bike shoe. I also have the Shimano M089 and the RT82 is noticeably stiffer to give you a more efficient pedal stroke with less lateral wobble. I would not wear the RT82 for a gravel or cross ride where you might need to carry your bike over obstacles or uphill. There are rubber pads protecting the clear and they give you a comfortable walking service but there is no significant tread for traction so you would have trouble getting traction on gravel or a hill. Great shoe!

Comments about Shimano RT82 Road/Touring Shoes:

Love this shoe...Great fit, comfortable and the Velcro and latch attachments allow for additional adjustments for more added comfort. Reset cleat allows you walk comfortably in the shoe when off the bike. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and the 43 size fits me perfectly. Have two pair and alternate use. They work very well with my Shimano touring pedals.

Comments about Shimano RT82 Road/Touring Shoes:

These work for what I wanted but I have a few issues... They seem smaller compared to other Shimano size 44 shoes I have. The toe box is roomy but has a heavy seam along side my big toes that is annoying. Unfortunately these are the most flexible bike shoes I have, more than an old pair of R087s and my mt bike shoes. The description says STIFF and these are not. The good features: love the ratchet system, they are comfortable and will probably fit nicely once broken in.

Comments about Shimano RT82 Road/Touring Shoes:

I paired these with the Nashbar Soho pedals and couldn't be happier. The shoes are comfortable and I love that the top strap ratchets so I can make sure they're nice and tight. The only complaint I have with the shoes is that the instructions that came with, for a person who has no idea what they are doing, are pretty vague and lacking. I looked up how to install everything on the shoe online and was okay then. The shoes themselves are great, though, and I'd recommend them to anyone. They're pretty easy to walk around in as well thanks to being a hybrid of road and MTB style on the bottom of the shoe. Only if I put a lot of pressure on them will the cleats grind against the ground. If I walk normally I almost never hear the cleat make contact with the ground. I can walk normally without issue.

Comments about Shimano RT82 Road/Touring Shoes:

I have a pair of the original R80 touring shoe and still wear them 6 yrs later. Thinking of trading them in for a new pair. Have used them weekly for spinning classes and long bike rides. I love the recessed cleat for walking. After one too many slips with Look style cleats I switched to these for road shoes and SPD style pedals. Haven't looked back. Will probably replace with same shoe.

I like that the sole is not lugged like a MTB shoe, but still has the recessed cleat. It still looks like a road shoe.

I love these shoes. I was looking for that right combination of shoe that would provide the flexibility to clip in, while walking comfortably when off the bike. Very sleek looking, great styling, great closure for secure pedaling, quality Shimano product. Fit is true, with just the right amount of room for toes and front part of foot.
