Tough Tire

Pros

Cons

Best Uses

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

As pointed out by others, yes…this is a heavy tire; and heavy duty too. Yes, it may require a little effort to get them on or off the rim. But hey…I installed them on a touring bike. It's not exactly light to begin with.

Reasons I like these tires…
1. Reflective sidewall – makes you MUCH more visible at night from the side.
2. Tough tire – only one flat so far. And I attribute that one flat to poor tubes from Nashbar. I never could find a reason for the flat except a small rip in the seam of the tube. Sorry Nashbar, your tubes aren't the greatest. Spend the extra buck or two on better tubes.
3. Smooth riding. Even pumped up close to or at the maximum 87 psi limit, rough city streets aren't so bad.
4. They also do well on "rails to trails" bike paths, such as Missouri's Katy Trail.

Sadly, the original tread pattern tire from Vittoria that came on my Raleigh Sojourn is now discontinued. These come close.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

Probably not worth what I paid for it. Harder than the gravel on the roads I ride. I won't be able to tell you about durability, because this tire is going on the spare wheel set and won't accumulate much mileage.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

I was very happy with this tire. Because of the reviews, I purchased a set of steel tire irons but was able to get them on by hand. They sure are stiff and tougher than average to get seated on the rim but after leaving them at max PSI for a couple days, then deflating to recommended PSI, they were perfectly centered. Very nice and comfortable ride. I think these will wear well. Feels like a very heavy duty tire.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

Yes they were stiffer than the tires that came on my Nashbar Cross. But not so hard that I couldn't change one on the side of the road. After 3 flats in 7 days with the old tires. I've now gone 200 miles over the same trails and roads with all the nut shells and burrs the trees care to drop, and they are performing beautifully. Just what I was looking for.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

I used these tires to replace the factory tires that came on a Trek 7.5. I live in New York City and use the bike for daily commuting to work. The original tires gave too stiff a ride and didn't handle pot holes and cracks well. These tires softened the ride and give me great confidence for city riding. They were tight to install but not impossible- just took some work.

We bought these for my wife's hybrid commuter bike. We are taking a ride in the Black Hills on the Mickelson Trail this year and needed a bit more beef. These tires are proving to fit the bill perfectly. Good tread, stout construction without too much added weight.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

I ride 16 miles a day commuting all year round into Boston and have so far been very impressed with these tires, and for the price, feel it was a steal. I'll update my review once I get a chance to run these through the winter but can't imagine they will land shy of the mark. The reflective sidewalls add an additional level of safety to the bike that hardcore urban cyclists cannot afford to live without.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

Heavy is a feature with this tire. It slows acceleration, but runs smooth once you're up to speed. Great for commuting since it apears to be very puncture resistant. Expect a long life with the thick tread.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

We bought four of these tires to replace four Avocets that had worn out. Excellent replacements. Some folks have commented on difficulty of mounting the tires. Someone on another forum suggested warming the tire in the sun for a few minutes. That and careful use of a couple of metal tire irons make the job easy. If you count grams, this tire may not be for you as it is built for road hazards and as such is not a lightweight tire. But it is perfect for our use.

Comments about Michelin Pilot Tracker City Tire:

So poorly made that the tread didn't track straight on the road after they were installed. Also very tight on the rim; difficult to put on. Nashbar accepted them back with no fuss however and did not charge me for return shipping. That's why I'm staying a Nashbar customer and, in fact have another order on it's way.
