Comments about Nashbar Tempo Heart Rate Monitor:

If what you want is a quick and cheap way to monitor your heart rate while you exercise, this is the watch for you. Sadly it doesnt come with cycling option so you cant monitor your rpm on a bike. Its quick and easy to use. It isnt perfect but for the price is a perfect buy.

Still new and works fine now but cannot vouch for longer term relaibility.
Easy to set up but appears you can only set alarms for one training zone at a time [maybe i'm wrong]. Chest band is thinner than my previous models and may or may not be uncomfortable after extended use.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Heart Rate Monitor:

Works well for a price. wrist strap has a bump at the end makes it 3 times more difficult to put it on. So I cut that part off. Chest strap snap is kinda small and has a knob that makes it difficult to put it on. And display letter is too small for my 50 year old eye. They made heart rate reading too big and rest of reading too small. Other than that it is accurate, comfortable and informative.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Heart Rate Monitor:

First, let me say I've used this HRM for several months before writing this review.

Re: the rating, I wish they allowed 1/2 stars. I'd give this 2 1/2.

This HRM is VERY accurate/ reliable when I'm on the stationary trainer, but out on the road (especially in cooler temps), readings can fluctuate wildly.

Yes, all HRM's need moisture to pick up a pulse, but this unit needs A LOT to get a reading. Also, if it doesn't sense a pulse in 'X' amount of time, three dashes appear and the unit goes into a sleep mode. To get it restarted, I've had to stop, then start the stopwatch.

This erratic behavior *might* be caused by my locale (power lines, etc.) but in my experience other units aren't so sensitive.

The chest strap isn't terrible, but it's not the most comfortable I've every used, either.

Battery replacement - I'll forewarn you that you need to be careful/ patient, and have a small screwdriver set. Battery replacement in the monitor is doable, but tricky. The chest strap isn't nearly as tricky. CR2032's in both.

On the plus side, the unit has some useful (but basic by todays standards) features. I'm 'old school', so that suites me fine.

Bottom line IMO is if you can get this on sale and can live with its idiosyncrasies in cool temps on the road, it's a good buy. If not, spend about double on a Sigma, among others.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Heart Rate Monitor:

Needed a HRM to cycle smarter. Others prices, where way up there. I just wanted something simple that would give me readings. This does that. The watch/ wrist band gives more and is easy to read. I attached it to my handlebars so I could read it easier. It works and the price is great compared to others.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Heart Rate Monitor:

I just wanted to comment on potential durability.

I don't have this unit. I have previous generation. I have an old Gen2 Nashbar, that I bought ~15 years ago.

Many batteries over the years, and many miles. I use it for cycling/running all the time and it has never let me down. Though my strap elastic has seen better days.

While others are replacing their expensive gadgets, my simple Nashbar just keeps doing it's thing.

            Kudos Nashbar
