Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

I just put these on a new 29'r frame I built into a light tourer/gravel grinder. They were apx half the price of most disc setups and are working beautifully. I don't know yet about long-term durability but suspect they will be fine. They say hydraulic systems are stronger and more responsive; however I can't imagine wanting or needing more stopping power. Personally, I did not want to deal w brake fluid (which is toxic) or the various other oils on my bike. The NB mechanicals are easy to adjust once you read the instructions and experiment a bit. The sole small criticism: the mounting brackets are supposed to be labeled "F" and "R" for front and rear. I could not find this and the photos were pretty useless. Also, the rear bracket is higher on one end than the other and the instructions don't show which end goes toward the back of the bike. This led to some trial and error in the mounting which could have been avoided. On balance, these are great brakes for a great price.

Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

I purchased these to put on a Nashbar brand 29er frame that I was building up for cheap and have been happy with them after about a hundred miles. They are not as strong as nice hydraulics but at least as good as lower end ones, and far cheaper. I can generally just use one finger with them. The only complaint I have is that there is about a centimeter of room between where the lever is fully out and where it starts to engage the brakes, no matter how I adjust the cables, making me hold them in to just before the engagement point on descents, which can make for sore digits on long rides.

    NOT for every bike

Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

Looks great, price great...but don't buy unless you have the proper mounts on the frame, and wheels with attachment points. Great price goes down the drain if you have to buy new wheels or frame mounts. Only one small sentence in the description states this fact. Probably won't work on most older bikes (that you were hoping to upgrade!)like mine.

Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

I upgraded my 2003 Giant DS Warp to disc brakes. I have never ridden disc brakes and found these to be one stop shopping. Set came with everything needed. I chose to use my XT levers already on my bike and the brakes worked fine. I've only ridden with these brakes a few times but have been pleased with the stopping power of these brakes.

I will update my review as I get more miles on them but I do not see any reason for issues to arise.

Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

I bought these brakes as my first set of disk brakes ever. They were extremely easy to install and adjust. I was able to adjust them rather quickly to get them where I would like. They offer great stopping power. I did not use the brake levers that came with the set but used my Shimano XT's I already had on my bike and work great. Only have a few miles on these so will update as i get more time and miles on them.

This super affordable kit included everything. I replaced some hydraulics that had developed some stubborn leaks. I couldn't be happier! Good quality and a great price.

My old Avid brakes bit the dust on my Marin mountain bike. The bike sat, until I saw these bargain brakes. They were easy to install and are working great. Came with everything I needed, including pads and cables.

Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

Needed an inexpensive replacement on my training bike. I am a XC rider so hydraulics aren't essential. Brakes are easy to install and stopping power is adequate. Only shortcoming so far is the annoying squeaking after the brake in period. They're solid brakes.

Comments about Nashbar Mechanical Disc Brake Set:

These brakes actually went on quite easily. However once they were installed there was nothing I could do to stop the squeal. I tried everything short of rubbing dirt in the brakes (yes a shop did recommend doing just that). I replaced them with BB7s and voila, problem solved. Could have been a faulty pair, could have been user error on my part, but it was the fourth set of disc brakes I've installed and the only one I've had problems with. Would not recommend these.
