Comments about Pearl Izumi Elite Tall Wool Socks - Closeout:
I bought these socks to test for warmth because I'd just relocated from California to Pennsylvania.
They are not warm enough for outdoor use. Mind you, I think I have Reynaud's, which makes it extremely difficult to keep my hands and feet warm but even inside winter boots that are lined, my feet get cold in these socks.
When I washed them the first time, they shrank from mid-calf length to crew length. No joke--they are half as long as before. I guess Pearl Izumi didn't use pre-shrunk wool.
I did find them useful in my job as a personal trainer. I'm on feet for hours each day and need a little extra cushion. These worked well. My gym is a hulking structure with tennis, squash, racquetball, and basketball courts and swimming pools. It is sort of cold in the winter and these socks kept me comfortable. Good for indoor use but not outdoor use.
