Comments about Nashbar Shadow 2-Bike Hitch Rack:

Really wished I had researched this rack better. It will suit my needs but the next higher version would have provided the added features to make this a better value. ie. Hate the velcro straps, which the top tube holders locked, wish it folded. BTW not sure if the next model would have accomadated a fat bike. This one does of you rotate the tire holder 180DEG and use small bungee's for wheel straps.

This is a very basic 2-bike carrier rack that easily adjusts to fit bikes with varied wheelbases and bar heights. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I also have an older ultra strong 4 bike version of this. This one is not quite as sturdy, but it is so much lighter and more compact. I have not had an issue with it scraping the ground as I have at times with the 4 bike rack. On sale, hard to beat the price. Thank you Nashbar!

My second one in 8 years

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 2-Bike Hitch Rack:

I purchased an almost identical incarnation of this carrier in 2009. Brand name SportRack.

Tips: (1) Rather than aggressively tightening the knob to hold the vertical clamp in place use a bungee cord to apply downward pressure then just tighten the knob gently. Otherwise, I stripped the threads on the screw after a few years. (2) To fit fat tires, I rearranged the velcro tire straps to attach first to the round tubing (which surrounds the tire) rather than the square tubing (where the factory attached the velcro).

My 8-year-old SportRack is virtually identical (i.e., same manufacturer and product) with some minor design changes. In July 2017 I purchased the Shadow2 as a replacement because the SportRack's vertical clamp was binding and required a hammer to move it up after being clamped. (I think I had already tried both clamps and clamping screws. I only mount one bike but over time had used both clamps and clamping screws because of the thread-stripping problem.)

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 2-Bike Hitch Rack:

Bikes are well captured, minimal rattling.
Awkward retracted position (to enter tailgate of SUV).

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 2-Bike Hitch Rack:

I bought this so my wife would have an easier time mounting and un-mounting her bike. So far she likes it. The low access height makes it easy to mount the bike. Rack folds up nice and compact for easy storage. Not too heave making it easy to lift and mount the the car. No worries about different frame geometries or lifting the bike way up to hang on the rack. So far so good. I would recommend this rack.

No frills, easy to use, sturdy construction and works good for a fraction of the price of leading brand names. No locks, but a cable lock is easy enough to deter theft.

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 2-Bike Hitch Rack:

I have other racks for both hitch mount and trunk mount, but none are as easy to use as this one. I bought a wrench to keep with the rack so I can put it on and load the bikes in just a few minutes. It adjusts easily for different sized bikes. It doesn't have fancy quick release adjusters, only knobs, but it doesn't cost hundreds of dollars either. I also like that I can open my truck's tailgate when there isn't a bike on the inside position.
