Comments about Nashbar Shadow 4-Bike Hitch Rack:

Impressed with this wheel tray rack. Seems well made and works with all frame styles. In my opinion this type of rack is the best way to securely carry most bikes from cruisers to high end carbon bikes.

Just got back from a 2000 mile trip with this rack. Worked Wonderful!! Only reason didn't give a 5 star is because of flimsy cables that hold pins.

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 4-Bike Hitch Rack:

I've had this for about 3 weeks and it's exactly what I wanted at a great price. (Got it during a 25% off sale.)
          Assembly:
This was very easy to assemble, it took me about 45 minutes to put together by myself. I would suggest putting the hitch post into your hitch and assembling it that way. This great idea dawned on me half-way through putting it together. I would suggest getting some silicone spray or something similar to help with putting the hook mounts on. If I remember correctly I only used 2 tools to put it together.
          Use:
It's very heavy, but that's a good thing for me. I could have spent $700 on a nice, light weight, adjustable trailer hitch mounted bike rack... wait, no I couldn't, cause that's too much money for me to spend on a bike rack. I already spent too much money on my carbon frame mountain bike, so I need the cheapest and safest way to transport it, and the rest of my families bikes around to all the places we go without worrying if my bike rack is going to fall apart. And, this is what I got out of this rack. No, I can't open the back door on my Saturn Vue while it's on, but that's where the $500 savings comes in to play.

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 4-Bike Hitch Rack:

As long as you know what you are getting into, this is a great rack. I have a 5-bike rack that tries to put 5 bikes within 26 inches (bike frame centerline to centerline). It is generally impossible without major work on the bikes like taking off pedals or other things. This rack puts 4 bikes in about 30 inches of space . It is easy and quick with no changes needed on the bikes, only minor adjustments on the rack.

              There are some cons:
              Heavy (~70Lbs!)
Does not fold up close to the car. The arms fold up so it is 'narrow', but it will always stick out 3 feet or so from the back of the car. It is not something you can leave on the car long-term like other racks. It also takes a sizable place to store in the garage. It is about a foot wide and 3.5 feet long
Only holds 4 bikes. I sometimes need to carry 6.

              Pros:
So much easier to load and unload 4 bikes than other racks I have seen.
Holds bike securely. No worries of a wheel coming off if the quick release on the wheel is loose :-)

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 4-Bike Hitch Rack:

So I researched a lot, and possibly too much. Have had a use out of this rack and it is awesome. It handles your bikes super great. Holds them in rock solid, and is easy to use. You do need to think about how you put bikes in biggest with the top bar holder on top. But other than that it is super simple.

Here is the bottom line, if you are loaded and love to throw your cash around then there are plenty of more expensive racks that are less versatile. But me being a poor dad of 2 boys and wife who rides just needed lots of space cheap so I could buy more bikes!!! And I am glad I got this rack.

Just remember it is as solid as a rock, so heavy, but it means everything is well held into place!!!

Very nice rack. Well built and sturdy. The moveable arms are all secured with a keyed pin. Lots of adjustability. Some sliding parts just need a little silicon spray. I transported 4 bikes very securely with no scratches. Highly recommended.

Comments about Nashbar Shadow 4-Bike Hitch Rack:

It was easy to assemble and install on vehicle. It is heavy duty and will likely last a long time. It's easy to use. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to gain access to the trunk of my van while it's in the hitch. Also the hitch pin doesn't allow for a locking pin. But for the price, it's a great buy.
