Nashbar Street Light USB Headlight
Nobody likes buying new batteries. We've been known to switch the batteries between our TV and DVD remotes just to avoid buying them, and don't even get us started on batteries for bike lights. We got so sick of it, we just made our own rechargeable tail lights. We're proud to introduce the Nashbar Street Light USB: a small, USB rechargeable light that fits anywhere on your bike or helmet.
  • USB rechargeable means no more slowly fading lights until you are absolutely forced to buy new batteries
  • White LED light is lightweight, bright, easy to see and nearly indestructible
  • Weatherproof silicone housing makes these perfect for riding in any weather
  • Easily attaches anywhere on your bike
  • 3 modes: high, low and flash

Bright. Easy to recharge with any mini-USB cable. Battery lasts for 20+ hours (that's 2 weeks of rides for me).

Best of all it's cheap enough to replace when someone steals it.

Comments about Nashbar Street Light USB Headlight:

This has both a steady-on function (headlight) as well as a flasher mode. The lumens are not quite enough for true headlight use (i.e. to light up the road) but it works great as a flasher to get the attention of drivers.

The on-off/mode switch is easy to use and feels solid.

I needed something convenient and simple to catch the eye of motorists while out on the road. This unit does that well and has a super-simple recharging method.

I've bought 3 of these so far, I keep a couple on hand and one for a gift in case I need something for a cyclist friend. the matching tail light is good too. I like the fact that they recharge with a USB cable and the charge seems to last quite awhile. In really dark conditions I'd want something a little more substantial but for in town or as supplemental light they work good.

Comments about Nashbar Street Light USB Headlight:

This is a nice light for visibility -- it's not going to light up the road, but people will notice it. I normally use it in flashing mode when I'm in the city. It doesn't do too well on dark roads, but that's not really its purpose so no worries.

Switching is the only real problem. (Admittedly, I probably got a faulty unit but it worked fine for the 2 weeks before I threw away the receipt :( ) There's a button that cycles through low, high, flash and off; mine seems to cycle randomly through these modes with each press. Not really a deal breaker, but it can be frustrating to have to press 15 times to get to flashing.

Battery life is good, brightness is good for a light of this caliber, construction is nice and (so far) weatherproof. Stretchy attachment will fit over any conceivable bars. Keep the receipt until you're sure the switch is good, and you'll be satisfied.

Clips right on handle bar of my Madone. Don't do much night riding but nice to have if I'm finishing a ride at dusk.

Night commuter 18-20mph city and rural. I purchased two to augment my helmet mounted light, and both together on handlebar focused 6' in front of front wheel aren't adequate. I'd say they are best for being seen, but was almost hit by a cop entering a traffic circle. Decided to turn on flash mode, but it seems when focused as I had them this causes some blindness- didn't see a newly installed speed bump in dark parking lot, and crashed. Very durable. I will continue to use them for signaling, but need to invest some real money in a blazing light to see with.
