Nashbar Bee's Knees 2x10 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike
The new 650b mountain bikes are the next big thing and the Bee's Knees 2x10 650b mountain bike is a perfect example of why. The Bee's Knees has the benefits of a 29er without the draw backs. Its bigger size wheels(27.5") means you can roll over stuff that would stop most 26" MTB's, but it is smaller and more nimble than a full-size 29er bike. It's a sweetly spec'd bike at a value you won't find anywhere else.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees 2x10 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I've had this bike for over a year now. I live in New Mexico and ride it in all types of situations, from the dry, dusty desert trails to the alpine meadows and forests of the Rockies. I also purchased an extra set of rims with a set of slicks to commute in the city. I've beat the heck out of this bike and it still performs at peak condition with only minor, everyday, essential maintainence needed. I love the hydraulic disc brakes and the shifting is flawless in all riding conditions. The components on this bike are like those on brand-name bikes 2 to 3 times the price. I'm sure there are bikes that are better for each setting in which I ride but I really can't think of a better bike better suited for everything I use it for. The only complaint I have is that there was a run in the clear coat on the top tube but if your worried about what your bike's paint job looks like than I would suggest you don't plan on riding it very often.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees 2x10 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

Great components for the price. I'm 5'8"/155 and the 15" fits well after adding a longer stem (120mm). A couple cons - the stock seat is a road seat and would be incredibly uncomfortable on this bike. Swap it out for a cushier mtn bike seat. Also, if you're riding over rocks or logs, you're going to need a bash guard. My large chainring is shot after the first ride. The MRP XCG taco bash (w/ BB adapter, since there's no ISCG mounts on the frame) will work, or Truvtiv makes a 2x10 rock guard. Other than that, the bike is very easy to assembly (95% complete already) and only took about 30 minutes to tune the brakes and rear derailleur. Great bike if you're really into single track riding.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees 2x10 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

This is my first hard tail in over 15 years and my first wheel size larger than 26" ever. I am 140lbs and 5'8" with 30" inseam and I got the 15" frame (I normally ride a 17"). I have ample stand over clearance but the cockpit was a little cramped with the 80mm stem. I swapped it for a 110mm Ritchey WCS 260 and I also flipped the stacks and put them on top of the stem. That gave me ample room and has given me a ride closer to that of a traditional 26er. After 50 miles in the saddle I am starting to get used to the larger size tire and the more erect riding position. My back misses rear suspension but this bike is solid and fast, especially in the downhill sections, just point and go. It accelerates well and up hills sections are a breeze with the remote lockout Revolution fork. That remote lockout is my favorite feature. The Nashbar frame has nice welds and is super solid, I may even say over built. At the end of the day you get great components on a solid frame for half the price of a bike with a big box name. My only complaint would be it seems to be a skosh heavy I think a wheel set would fix most of that, but seriously what biker doesn't think a bike should be a little lighter?

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees 2x10 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I have been riding a road bike for exercise for many years. The roads here have deteriorated to the point that a mountain bike now feels safer and clearly requires less maintenance. It takes some time to get used to the heavier bike but the workout over a similar course seems more intense than on a road bike.

Bee's Knees 2x10 650b mountain bike appears to be a very well built bike with good components. The gears and brakes are smooth right out of the box. It only took about 30 minutes to assemble the bike and be riding.

I only have about 150 miles on the bike so I will keep my fingers crossed. I retired my last bike after 23,000 miles which set a high bar.

This is an update on this bike. Solid performer and I love the speed of this bike. And it's light weight is such a plus climbing on the trails man I can climb almost anything the trail throws at me. The components are smooth, and solid. The tire size is perfect for me I don't see myself ever returning to either 26" or 29" wheels. I go against other riders with both tire sizes and the bike can do everything the 26 can do and more as well as the 29ers. It's hard to express just how much I love this bike best bike I've had in a long time!! Buy one you'll love it. I'm 6ft and I went with the 17" frame it's a little small but still works great actually I love the way it looks at the size has a BMX look to it and it's easier to throw around on the trail than larger frame bikes!! The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is due to the paint it scratches easily.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees 2x10 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I'm a recreational rider who favors steel road bikes. The only off road bike I have is a steel, all rigid, single speed 29er MTB which I really like. I wanted a multi-geared MTB to explore some of the longer trails around here that are not well suited for single speeding. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and ordered the 17" bike. The bike arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The bike is mostly assembled and it took about 1 hour to unpack, assemble, trial fit and test ride. One size allen and one torx wrench are the only tools required but a maintenance stand is useful. Anyone who does his/her own routine maitenance and minor repair as I do should have no problem assembling the bike. Everything worked fine right out of the box except the rear brake had some drag. A chart included in the documents pack clearly shows how to adjust the brakes which was easy to do. After adjusting the rear brake it developed a VERY LOUD squeal. A thorough cleaning of the rotor with cleaner/degreaser fluid fixed the noise. The shifting was perfect out of the box so no other adjustments were needed. The bike fit suits me for the riding I do but I'd suggest one size smaller frame for most riders with my build. The bottom bracket offers less ground clearance than I expected but the lower center of gravity might be a good thing. The clearance between the rear tire and chain stays at the bottom bracket is minimal so relatively small stones and sticks can jamb there which might be a consideration. I don't like the seat which is a personal thing. I have over 2 dozen rides on the bike in most conditions I'd care to ride and I have not a problem of any kind. The brakes have bedded in well with better feel with less grab than the hydro-discs on my 29er. The only time the brakes make any noise is when they get wet and then it's only a mild squeal that goes away as the brakes dry. Shifting has been flawless throughout the entire range. I considered the remote lockout to be an unnecessary gimick but that's not the case. Depending on the trail I sometimes used the lockout as much as I shift gears. Long smooth climbs, some tight gravely corners and other situations benefit from locked forks for my riding style. I rode a 10.2 mile loop around a small lake that is a perfect trail for my 29er which is the only other MTB I can compare with the 650B. There is loose gravel at the bottom of some "V" shaped switchbacks that can be tricky especially on a single speed because of the need to carry some speed and momentum to climb out of the corners. The 650B handles these corners much better than my 29er. The disc-brakes on my 29er causes the left steel fork arm to flex very slightly under braking. This causes a the front tire to dive into some corners more than expected which can up the pucker factor. The 650B drives in and out of these same corners without any problem at all even with the forks locked out. The forks perform very well without any flex. I still prefer riding the 29er SS on this particular trail because it's a little too boring on the multi-gear 650B. Bottom line: I've never experience a more trouble free new bike. If you are looking for a competent, entry level or mid level hard tail MTB I would recommend taking a good look at this one.

This is a great value the parts selection on this bike could easily make this $800-$500 or more if you are buying a name brand bike. It rides well; I find it a little bit harsh for a hard tail but still a good bike and a great entry into the 650B wheel size. I would recommend this bike for it value and if you want to try out the 650B wheel size. Now that there are more options for frame I will probably take the parts and put them on a better frame. The bike went together easy the only issues are that the seat post will need to be trimmed and the Avid Elixir brake take a little bit of work to center.

I just got this bike last week --- it came nearly put together. I had it ready to ride in about 30 minutes. First ride the bike just flies and is smooth over the bumps (love the new 27.5 wheel size). Components are great, not the best, but definitely well worth the money compared with other bikes in the same price range. Bike seems light and feels about right. I am 5'10" and bought the 17 inch size frame - seems to fit about right. Haven't had it long enough to talk about long term quality, but with these components I am sure it will last for many years. Thanks for a great bike and purchase Nashbar!

This is an awesome bike, It is light weight and well equipped. It is a very smooth ride, and corners and climbs like you wouldn't believe. It is also a very fast bike. The only issue I have is that I had to modify the seat post tube to fit the seat post becuase of the water bottle screws. But once I got that done, I had hopefully the last bike I will ever buy.
