Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike

The new 650b (27.5") mountain bikes are the next big thing and the Nashbar Bee's Knees Single Speed 650b mountain bike is a perfect example of why. The Bee's Knees Single Speed has the benefits of a 29er without the draw backs. Its bigger wheel size (27.5") means you can roll over stuff that would stop most 26" MTB's, but it is smaller and more nimble than a full-size 29er bike. It's a sweetly spec'd, super simple bike at a value you won't find anywhere else.

But don't just take our word about the Bee's Knees, here's a nice review from Dirt Rag!

"The Bee's Knees is a simple, fully rigid singlespeed with working man's components that, while on the entry-level side, will likely last a while. Notably, the Alex XD-Lite rims, Kenda Nevegal 27.5 tires and FSA Hammer headset all took a beating and remain ready to handle more...

"Overall, this bike is a perfect starter for anyone who wants to jump into the 27.5 wheel category and is a great value at $500."

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

Take the time to set it up properly, and it's a great ride. It does need chain tugs, so order those when you order this bike. Also, I may try a narrow/wide chaining as well. I have dropped the chain twice, and let me tell you, I haven't busted my nuts that bad since I was kid. Other than that, I love the bike. The geometry is great. Stock gearing is good. Weight is not nearly as bad as I was anticipating (I was going from a 19lb Trek to this). The Kenda tires are okay, but they are growing on me. I have run Maxxis Larsen TTs for the last several years, and those are hard to beat. My wrists are getting older, so I may end up having to put a suspension fork on it at some time in the near future. Overall, a great bike for the money. I enjoy riding it way more than my Scott Scale 960.

bought this when offered at 20% add'l off - decent deal. No biggie, more a pain, wish the specs were more clear for lugged front wheel (no QR). And really, why doesn't seat tube have bidon bolts? Other than that, it's a solid deal for a basic bike, but wait for the 20% discount.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

Got this cheap (21% PLUS 1/2 OFF!), and it's worth what you pay -- cheap brakes and saddle, but overall a decent single speed mtb. 32x18 gearing is decent for most trail riding. Heavy. Thoroughly enjoyable however, as the single speed and decent frame with pretty good tires make up it. I actually have ridden this more than my Niner, which cost 100x more! Brings you back to the time when you were a kid just out riding around with your friends. This is a no frills bike, but that's a good thing.

For the price, I received exactly what I expected. Bike delivered with a pinched dropout on the front fork and the Nashbar Customer/Tech/Product Services Departments made everything right in an efficient and helpful manner. I cannot tell you how enjoyable the purchasing experience was due to the people involved who were there when I needed assistance.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

This is a great bike for the money. I started off by swapping the seat stem and handlebars. The bike is a blast to ride and had a lot of fun doing so. One complaint I have is I wanted to upgrade the crank and bottom bracket. I wanted to use the chainring the came on the bike but could not. This was due to the fact that the chainring where u bolt it up is not round. However once that problem is solved I am a smiling happy rider. If you want a no-nonsense mountain bike that is affordable and fun to ride this is the one for you.

I purchased this for single track usage. Overall I would have to say this bike is serious fun. Overall the bikes performance is very good. Sure there could be better component choices but overall for the price it's hard to beat this bike. I have been in the cycling industry for over 20 years. I would definitely recommend this bike to anyone looking for a solid single speed for under .$1000.

Best deal on a cromo 650b mt bike. It's simple but solid and just what I was looking for. Very hard to find a reasonable price steel mtb, and even though it's on the heavy side, it's still great.

            Simple, solid, great value.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I am very pleased with the bees knees SS 650b. I've been riding it for a few months now, and with a few basic upgrades, it rides quite nicely.

Right off the bat the bars and seat need attention. The bars are too narrow for ascending hills and the saddle is about as soft rock wrapped with a dish towel. Spent about $50 to upgrade these. I found the 32/18 gearing to be a bit difficult at times so I swapped the rear with a 20T. $15 investment.

I personally have no problem with the bb5 brakes. I find they have plenty of stopping power.

The bottom line: Great starting point for a SS mtb. The bike is well built and a few inexpensive upgrades make the riding experience even more enjoyable. Keep in mind that nashbar often has 20% off entire order days so you can get a nice discount on this sweet ride.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I use this Bike on local trails in the boulder area. Its rigid so don't expect a squishy ride like a full-suspension. If that is what you want this is not the right bike for you. But if you are looking for a bike that will make you stronger and improve your ability to pick the best line this bike is for you. Plus it is a ton of fun. The gearing could be a little on the high side for some but if you are in shape it is perfect. Buy this bike and enjoy its simplicity.
