Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike

The new 650b (27.5") mountain bikes are the next big thing and the Nashbar Bee's Knees Single Speed 650b mountain bike is a perfect example of why. The Bee's Knees Single Speed has the benefits of a 29er without the draw backs. Its bigger wheel size (27.5") means you can roll over stuff that would stop most 26" MTB's, but it is smaller and more nimble than a full-size 29er bike. It's a sweetly spec'd, super simple bike at a value you won't find anywhere else.

But don't just take our word about the Bee's Knees, here's a nice review from Dirt Rag!

"The Bee's Knees is a simple, fully rigid singlespeed with working man's components that, while on the entry-level side, will likely last a while. Notably, the Alex XD-Lite rims, Kenda Nevegal 27.5 tires and FSA Hammer headset all took a beating and remain ready to handle more...

"Overall, this bike is a perfect starter for anyone who wants to jump into the 27.5 wheel category and is a great value at $500."

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I am using a set of 700c wheels and changed it up to hydraulic brakes. The rear wheel uses a SRAM dual drive hub(three speed internal) and a single gear on the cassette body. I call it "The Fun Speed!"

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

Got this bike during the holiday promos for a price I couldn't refuse. I've been wanting to try 27.5in wheels, and this was the cost effective way to do it! As others have said, the bars are narrow and the stem is long by current MTB standards, so I switched those out with a set of stock stem/bars that came off another MTB in my garage. Perfect! I just love the simplicity of SSs and the setup for this one is spot on. I wouldn't recommend it as an ONLY MTB, but if you're curious and you can get it at a good price, it's worth a few hundred bucks, no question. Mine is lots of fun!

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I use this bike for commuting! This bike is simple with disk brakes! Light, tight and well made; this 650b rolls over everything with a smooth intention! Put a light on it! And use it as a grocery commuter! Gearing is balanced! I didn't feel the need for bigger or smaller cogs! However, Im not riding up hill!
This bike looks beautiful and is unique! It is simple to use! No gears! The bigger wheels roll over everything!

If you're going to use this bike as a commuter; make sure you take it inside! Continual locking outside and you will get it stolen! It's a $500 bike! It will be interesting to the thieves in the general area! It is to expensive to leave outside on a daily basis! thats my opinion; lock up at your own risk!

Ive owned10 bikes! This is one of the best all around bikes Ive owned!

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

I bought this bike to tool around the neighborhood with my kids, hit some local trails, and head to the grocery store. It is PERFECT. The gearing is great. It rides smooth, and I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.

It is heavier than a single speed ought to be, but it was a screaming deal so who cares? I am 6'2" and bought the Large and it fits great. Be mindful that it does not come with pedals, and I swapped the seat out for my favorite saddle, but that isn't a must. Shipping was fast and assembly was easy.

Buy this bike! I am so glad that I did.

Comments about Nashbar Bee's Knees Single-Speed 650B/27.5" Mountain Bike:

Take the time to set it up properly, and it's a great ride. It does need chain tugs, so order those when you order this bike. Also, I may try a narrow/wide chaining as well. I have dropped the chain twice, and let me tell you, I haven't busted my nuts that bad since I was kid. Other than that, I love the bike. The geometry is great. Stock gearing is good. Weight is not nearly as bad as I was anticipating (I was going from a 19lb Trek to this). The Kenda tires are okay, but they are growing on me. I have run Maxxis Larsen TTs for the last several years, and those are hard to beat. My wrists are getting older, so I may end up having to put a suspension fork on it at some time in the near future. Overall, a great bike for the money. I enjoy riding it way more than my Scott Scale 960.

bought this when offered at 20% add'l off - decent deal. No biggie, more a pain, wish the specs were more clear for lugged front wheel (no QR). And really, why doesn't seat tube have bidon bolts? Other than that, it's a solid deal for a basic bike, but wait for the 20% discount.

Got this cheap (21% PLUS 1/2 OFF!), and it's worth what you pay -- cheap brakes and saddle, but overall a decent single speed mtb. 32x18 gearing is decent for most trail riding. Heavy. Thoroughly enjoyable however, as the single speed and decent frame with pretty good tires make up it. I actually have ridden this more than my Niner, which cost 100x more! Brings you back to the time when you were a kid just out riding around with your friends. This is a no frills bike, but that's a good thing.

I cannot tell you how enjoyable the purchasing experience was due to the people involved who were there when I needed assistance.
