Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals
Sometimes clipless pedal systems are not your number one option for cycling. For instance, the demands of technical mountain bike riding, downhill riding, BMX, winter riding, or simply cruising around town in casual clothes are best served by a platform pedal. Enter the Nashbar Verge. The Verge platform pedal - solid and well-built - delivers some serious bang for your buck. First and foremost, there's a broad, strong, machined alloy body that provides plenty of support. Sealed cartridge bearings ensure these pedals are super-smooth while the replaceable traction pins provide just enough bite to keep your shoes in place on the platform. With all of these features you'll be hard pressed to find a better value anywhere.
  • Machined alloy body is stiff, lightweight and super durable
  • Platform is 3.75 inches by 3.75 inches at the widest and longest points
  • Replaceable traction pins can be removed, swapped out or replaced
  • Sealed cartridge bearings improve wear life and keep mud and grit out of the moving parts
  • Includes spare traction pins

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

i needed some platform pedals with some grip to them. the old ones i had i got for getting to and from the farm i work at with my boots on. the problem was they were cheap plastic pedals with fairly smooth platforms. this combined with the hard rubber of my boot soles made riding the ridged downhill corners pretty hairy as my feet would quickly vibrate off the pedals.

enter the nashbar verge. the traction pins work perfectly. so far they seem pretty durable, and they definitely prevent my feet from moving. in fact it's so grippy that if i put my foot on the pedal incorrectly, i can't just twist it straight. i have to actually pick my foor up off the pedal, straighten it, and then put it down again.

getting to the farm is now a whole lot safer thanks to these pedals.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

I got careless and ripped a good chunk out of my leg with the traction pins. NOT the pedals fault. The pins are really grippy and I love the wide platform. I have used these on club rides and plan to use them on the C&O trail . I am going to see if I can screw the traction pins in a little further to avoid future injury.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

The peddles seem fine. They feel sturdy and putting your sneakered foot on the pedal is a breeze. I bought these to replace old road pedals which are way too small to wear with sneakers. My only complaint is that these pedals might be just a tad big for my use.

Bought these for new Kona XC bike and would absolutely buy again. For $100 more you can save a few grams but the far superior durability of these over Weight Weenie flats makes these a much better buy. They have stood up to some pretty hairy banging on tough rocky trails. Bearings have held up well through many miles. Studs are super grippy and hold feet solidly in place. Can't think of anything I would change.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

I got these as a gift for my birthday after picking them out online. They arrived fairly quickly and were a quick and easy install (hardest part was removing my old, lousy, plastic pedals), and gave me great grip on my first ride.
They arrived in a quaint little box that included detailed instructions on the installation of the pedals, as well as 10 extra metal nubs for the pedals in in the off chance that some are lost or broken. The nubs need to be installed using a 2mm hex wrench (standard in metric hex sets), and the pedals are tightened using an 8mm hex wrench (also standard in metric hex sets).
I used these seriously for the first time during my weekly mountain biking trip with my dad where they gave me wonderful grip through mud and dirt with my flat, non-grippy shoes, and survived my bike attempting (and failing) to teach me gymnastics.
The one slight downfall that I noticed about these pedals is that the paint scratches off rather easily. When I put my bike down on its side on my driveway, I noticed that the end of the pedal had had the paint taken off of it just from sliding a few inches on concrete.
Overall, these are a great set of pedals for a pretty reasonable sum of money, and I highly recommend these to anyone who bikes on any surface-they're great on the road, and on trails.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

Get real...how many people really 'need' to clip in? If you do, this review ain't for you. Now...for the REST of us, it doesn't GET any better than this!
Well made...the things are neither stamped or machined. They appear to be a solid hunk of aluminum that has been investment cast-all one piece. You've got about a dozen 2mm STEEL pins that will grip the sole of your shoe like glue...EASY to keep an even pressure on them as you pull thru the cycle. Added to this is the fact that these have replacable roller bearings, and you've got a pedal for LIFE.
These are deep enough to give your feet the support they need. Especially if you ride a recumbent, as I do, you know what I'm talkin' about when I tell you that bent bikes put more pressure on your lower legs and feet than to diamond frames. A typical pair of Welgo plats is NOT going to cut it, as I rediscovered when I started riding my 'old' bent bike again for winter. This is now the 3rd pair I've ordered, and I have to say this is THE BEST thing that Nashbar offers. They're going on my winter 'bent.
Highly recommended, whatever you ride. I don't ride a regular roadie anymore, but if I did, I'd not hesitate to put these on it.

I researched grippy, relatively lightweight platform pedals for my mountain bike. I really didn't want to spend over $150. These do the job admirably and affordably.

I bought these pedals last year because they were inexpensive while I waited for the other brand I thought I wanted that were on back order. The Other brand pedals came only to get sent back because I liked these Verge pedals so much. Last week I got another set for my new bike!
