Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals
Sometimes clipless pedal systems are not your number one option for cycling. For instance, the demands of technical mountain bike riding, downhill riding, BMX, winter riding, or simply cruising around town in casual clothes are best served by a platform pedal. Enter the Nashbar Verge. The Verge platform pedal - solid and well-built - delivers some serious bang for your buck. First and foremost, there's a broad, strong, machined alloy body that provides plenty of support. Sealed cartridge bearings ensure these pedals are super-smooth while the replaceable traction pins provide just enough bite to keep your shoes in place on the platform. With all of these features you'll be hard pressed to find a better value anywhere.
  • Machined alloy body is stiff, lightweight and super durable
  • Platform is 3.75 inches by 3.75 inches at the widest and longest points
  • Replaceable traction pins can be removed, swapped out or replaced
  • Sealed cartridge bearings improve wear life and keep mud and grit out of the moving parts
  • Includes spare traction pins

Fell apart within first 200 feet of riding

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

Pedal fell apart within the first 200 feet of riding, causing a gash in my leg and a ruined ride (at least I wasn't too far from my car). The pedal cage completely slid off the pedal axle, leaving just the axle attached to the crankarm. And yes, they were installed correctly. I spent five minutes or so trying to put it back together, but no luck. Not sure if a retention nut was missed during assembly or what. I'm very hesitant to try another pair of these, but apart from that they seem well made, fairly light, and a nice design. Hard to get over such a quick and full failure, though.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

Not long ago, I realized that I was having issues with pedaling. First, I bought some 5.10 Stealth shoes to help improve my pedaling. Definitely helped but not significantly noticeable. However, when I combine the shoes with these pedals, I feel as if I have been super-glued to the pedals. Although I don't have the tools to measure, I feel as if I am getting much more power with these pedals. Moreover, they are much more comfortable than the teeny pedals that were original issue. Quality product as well.

Bought these for my single speed. Nice look and craftsmanship. Haven't wiped out with these yet but I foresee the length of the pins grating deep into my shin meat one day.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

I bought these pedals to try the whole not clipped on riding style after I got tired of falling down from not getting my foot out of the cleated pedals. I must say I like it! The pedals are very grippy with the pins but I have had to learn to pedal uphill with toes down and pushing down on the pedals as you can't pull up in your pedal stroke like you can using cleats. If you do bobble on a rocky climb you can be on your feet to balance rather than your butt looking at the dirt with a foot stuck to a pedal. I was surprised at the cost of this type of pedal when I first considered buying them but turned to Nashbar and found these Verge pedals to have all the features at a reasonable cost. Considering the performance of these pedals I don't see a need to spend more.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

I researched pedals for a week before finding these. They are exactly what I was looking for: concave platform, excellent grip, replaceable studs, sealed bearings, relatively thin, and good size/shape contact surface. They generously came with stud replacements. The bearings are smooth, but somewhat tight and I have yet to make adjustments. A tremendous value, with features of a $100+ pedal in a price range that leaves room for more upgrades. Shipping was quick, even to Alaska. I just wish Nashbar offered better shipping rates.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

Love these pedals. I don't like clipping in on a mountain bike so purchased these on a whim. Just did an overnight relay with them and couldn't be more pleased. No slip and feel I can get out of the pedals if things are about to go bad, which since I am so graceful tends to happen sometimes.

Comments about Nashbar Verge Platform Pedals:

Fitted these on a MEKK Poggio road bike. These work great. Nice wide and trippy platform (withers the "spikes").

Not a fan of clip ins at my age (57) with lots of stop signs etc on my route. These are just so much less hassle and provide great grip with no power loss than I can tell.

Pedals offer a good grip on my shoes for comfort riding, So very much better than what came with the bike, shoes would slip off sometimes during hard pedaling like up hill. These I feel are the best free grip choice.
